98th Academy Awards Preview, Part One:  Best Actor

Film fanatics, it’s that time again!  The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on January 22nd, and as always, there’s a crop of cosmic contenders for Oscar gold.  The awards will be held on Sunday, 15 March 2026 at 4 PM PDT in Los Angles, California, but with celestial foresight we might not have to wait to see who takes home the statuette.  But one quick caveat before we start – with asteroid Victoria 12 at 25 Taurus on Awards night, named for the Roman goddess of victory, conjoined Uranus at 28 Taurus, ruling shocks, surprises and upsets, literally anything is possible!

A case can be built for victory for most of the nominees (or at least, those with asteroid referents to represent them), which is often the case.  After all, if the cosmic potential isn’t there, they wouldn’t be nominated in the first place!  So it’s more a matter of ranking relative strength, from the point of view of the stars, to see which stars come out on top.

Michael B. Jordan, my cosmic pick for Best Actor; with the Sun exactly conjunct asteroid Oskar, squared asteroid Actor, his chances of picking up the gold statuette at some point are superlative [image drawn by ChatGPT]

And in the “shoo-in” category, nobody tops Michael B. Jordan, nominated as Best Actor for his dual role as criminal twins Elijah and Elias Moore in Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners.”  With “Sinners” having just shattered the record for most-nominated film of all time, with 16 nominations total, I won’t be the only one predicting a Jordan win.  But a Jordan victory isn’t just industry hype – he’s got the cosmic street creds to back it up!

Born 9 February 1987 at 8:14 PM PST in Santa Ana, California (Rodden Rating AA), Michael B. Jordan’s 20 Aquarius Sun is conjoined exactly by asteroid Oskar 750, a clear signal of an Oscar win at some point in his biography.  This is reinforced by a square to asteroid Actor 12238 at 16 Taurus, identifying Jordan as a thespian, and pretty much spelling out “Acting Oscar” in cosmic shorthand.  Though a popular actor, noted for his work in such films as “Creed” and “Black Panther,” this is his first Oscar nomination.  But Oskar has already been his ally – Jordan’s breakout role came in 2013’s “Fruitville Station” (also a Coogler effort), where he played Oscar Grant.  Actors often achieve notice or acclaim for roles with PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) which connect to their Suns, allowing for an authentic, genuine performance.

Jordan plays twins Elias and Elijah Moore in the mega-nominated “Sinners;” asteroid Elias conjunct Sun/Oskar and asteroid Elijahmena conjoined Actor, squared the Sun, only adds to the celestial pileup pushing his victory

And the “Sinners” dual role of Elias and Elijah Moore fits that pattern as well, with asteroid Elias 26970 at 14 Aquarius, conjoined both Sun and Oskar, and asteroid Elijahmena 20441 at 20 Taurus exactly squared it.  (Elijahmena is a CNA – a Compound-Named Asteroid, with both first and last names strung together as one word, which can be separated and used for either; there is no stand-alone Elijah asteroid.)  Of course, Elias and Elijahmena both interact with Actor as well, cementing Jordan’s image as an Oscar-winner via that role.

Jordan first came to prominence for his portrayal of Oscar Grant in 2013’s “Fruitvale Station;” asteroid Oskar conjunct his Sun enabled him to produce an authentic, attention-getting performance

Secondary support in the natal chart comes from a triple conjunction of Mercury at 8 Pisces, conjoined asteroids Michel 1348 and Academia 829, at 7 and 3 Pisces respectively, all squared asteroid Victoria at 4 Gemini.  Mercury rules the voting process, Michel is one of three celestial stand-ins for “Michael” (for which there is no exact match), Academia relates to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, which sponsors the Awards, and Victoria signals success.  So we see there a symbol of Academy members (Academia) voting (Mercury) for Jordan (Michel) to win (Victoria), reinforced in real time by transit Mercury at 9 Pisces, just returned to its natal place.

(In having Michel conjunct Mercury, Jordan conforms to the first rule of thumb with PNAs, which is that asteroids referencing the individual will typically appear in connection with the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Mercury, as ruling the naming function.  Jordan has his cosmic bases covered, with Michael alternate asteroid Michela 1045 at 16 Leo, opposed the Sun, and Michelle 1376 at 17 Virgo, widely conjoined the 26 Virgo Ascendant.)

oscar preview 2026 BA1 jordan creed
Jordan in 2015’s “Creed;” I’m not sure what creed Jordan professes, but sign me up! With Venus conjunct Neptune, he’s romantic fantasy fodder for sure; Mars sextile the Sun grants a smoldering sensuality; asteroid Aphrodite conjoined the Descendant emphasizes physical beauty; and asteroid Lust conjunct Mercury and asteroid Michel translates his attraction in a Media setting

This innate potential is underscored on Oscar Night, which features a 25 Pisces Sun, exactly conjoined Jordan’s natal Jupiter, arbiter of positive outcomes, success, luck and fame, exactly squared the 25 Gemini MC, ruling career, status and reputation.  The Sun also opposes Jordan’s Ascendant, affecting his public image and how others see him, which will certainly be the case as an Oscar winner.

As well, the Moon for the start of the Awards is at 16 Aquarius, conjoining natal Elias/Oskar/Sun and squared Actor/Elijahmena; and an opposition from transit Victoria at 25 Taurus to asteroid Nike 307 at 28 Scorpio, named for Victoria’s Greek precursor, forms a T-Square with his Aquarian solar stellium.

Jordan attained huge popularity for his work as villain Erik Killmonger in 2018’s “Black Panther;” transit placements support his Oscar win in 2026, with asteroid Michela conjunct asteroid Oskar and the MC of the Awards, asteroid Michel at station that day, conjoined the Awards Ascendant; and asteroid Jordaens squared its Sun

Not to be outdone, transit asteroid Jordaens 5232 (closest to Jordan) at 26 Sagittarius tightly squares the Sun, placing Jordan in the spotlight, while transit asteroid Michela at 24 Aries conjoins both the MC of the proceedings at 27 Aries and transit asteroid Oskar at 19 Aries.  The MC is the point of highest elevation in a chart, and thus the focus of all eyes, as Jordan will be should he win.  Asteroid Michelle at 15 Gemini widely squares the Sun, but more closely squares transit asteroid TRIUMF 14959 at 9 Virgo.  TRIUMF is named for an acronym of a Canadian science research facility but functions well as its homophone, “triumph,” meaning an unqualified success.  Lastly, transit asteroid Michel at 4 Leo hugs the 6 Leo Ascendant of the Awards, potentially making Jordan its public face, and is further embedded at station, signaling a critical turning point for Jordan personally.  Michel turns direct the very day of the Awards, making it a powerful presence and support.

Timothee Chalamet is also nominated as Best Actor, for his work in “Marty Supreme,” but with no asteroid referents, this dark horse has no rider

Transits from the chart of the 98th Academy Awards to Jordan’s birth chart include transit Oskar at 19 Aries, sextile his Sun and trine the 19 Sagittarius Saturn, ruling career, honors and peer recognition; also conjoined natal Mars at 22 Aries, perhaps energizing his candidacy.  Transit Jupiter at 15 Cancer conjoins natal TRIUMF at 18 Cancer; transit Victoria is exactly semisquare the natal Moon at 10 Cancer, ruling popularity, which is also in sesquiquadrate to transit Nike; transit asteroid Academia at 22 Leo opposes natal Sun/Oskar; transit TRIUMF at 9 Virgo opposes natal Mercury/Academia/Michel and T-Squares natal Victoria.

oscar preview 2026 BA1 di caprio
Best Actor nominee Leonardo di Caprio (“One Battle After Another”) is represented by asteroid Leonardo, conjunct Mercury and opposed asteroid TRIUMF for the Awards

Getting down to the nitty-gritty of the nominated performance, transit asteroid Elias at 8 Virgo conjoins transit Mercury, opposed transit TRIUMF and setting off that natal square.  Transit asteroid Elijahmena at 13 Virgo joins the party, conjoining TRIUMF and opposing Mercury, and transit asteroid Moore 2602 at 12 Libra (his role’s surname) conjoins transit Actor at 9 Libra, squared Jordan’s natal Moon.

Ethan Hawke is nominated for “Blue Moon,” with asteroid Hawke in a T-Square with Mercury and asteroid TRIUMF

That’s a lot of cosmic clout to overcome, but there are viable challengers.  Regrettably, Timothée Chalamet (nominated for “Marty, Supreme”) has no asteroid referents, so is celestially scratched at the post in this cinematic horserace.  Not that he couldn’t win, but there’s no jockey for his horse.

But Leonardo di Caprio, nominated for “One Battle After Another,” appears as asteroid Leonardo 3000, which at 6 Pisces conjoins Mercury at 9 Pisces and opposes TRIUMF at 9 Virgo.  Ethan Hawke, nominated for “Blue Moon,” is seen as asteroid Hawke 3452, which at 12 Gemini forms a T-Square with Mercury/TRIUMF.  And Wagner Moura, nominated for “The Secret Agent,” has two PNAs to represent him:  asteroid Wagner 3992 at 25 Cancer is exactly trine the 25 Pisces Sun and, like asteroid Michel, embedded at station (turning direct the day after), though not conjoined the Ascendant.  With Wagner also exactly sextile Victoria at 25 Taurus and trine Nike at 28 Scorpio (forming a Grand Trine with the Sun), and asteroid Mourao 2590 (closest to Moura) at 18 Virgo widely opposed the Sun, he could be the sleeper nominee Uranus picks to shake up the proceedings.

Wagner Moura, nominated for “The Secret Agent,” could be Uranus’ pick for the upset win of the night, with asteroid Wagner at station, in a Grand Trine with the Sun and asteroid Nike, also sextile Victoria, and asteroid Mourao widely opposed the Sun

With the Best Actor Award among the latest to be presented, typically within the last half hour of the ceremony, we’ll just have to wait and see.  For Michael B. Jordan and his fellow nominees, it could be a very long night.

Mercury also goes stationary direct on March 20th at 8°29′ Pisces so if that’s on Jordan’s natal Mercury, maybe it makes him even more likely to win…I’m sure after you win Best Actor at the Oscars you have to do a lot of communicating! It sure sounds like his chances are good. Thanks Alex!
