Debby Down(pour)er
Hurricane Debby made landfall as a Category 1 storm in the small town of Steinhatchee, in Florida’s Big Bend, at about 7 AM EDT on August 5, 2024. Debby had been named as a Tropical Storm just two days before, an unusually short interval between naming and effect. Winds began falling rapidly shortly after Debby went inland, and she was downgraded to Tropical Storm status again within a few hours, but Debby’s impact is expected to be felt in the arena of rain, with as much as 30” predicted in some regions. Already as of this writing (August 6), Debby has dropped some 16” in Manatee County, Florida, and historic flooding is expected in Georgia and the Carolinas.
It wouldn’t be summer at AAA if we didn’t have at least one rampaging hurricane to chronicle, and Debby fits the bill nicely. We’ll be primarily looking at her “birth” on the August 3rd naming, with some landfall updates included. Significantly for a rain-focused hurricane, asteroids Storm 12182 and Raine 221019 were both at station, rendering them as forces to be reckoned with in the timeframe. Storm at 10 Sagittarius had turned direct on July 27th, just a week earlier (and only a day after the tropical depression which spawned Debby was identified), opposed both energy-churning Mars at 9 Gemini and over-achieving force multiplier Jupiter at 14 Gemini. There’s also a T-Square with Saturn (hardship, loss, deprivation) at 18 Pisces, and another square to Mercury at 3 Virgo, fast approaching its own station (not a Grand Cross here, as Mercury is too wide to be considered as opposing Saturn). Mercury is often associated with weather patterns, and is paired here with asteroid Nemesis 128 at 1 Virgo, noted for bringing ruin and destruction. Storm’s stationary status suggests a “sit and spin” mentality, and indeed, Debby is expected to park herself in Georgia and the Carolinas for several days before moving up the Atlantic coast, soaking the area with feet of rain.
Which brings us back to asteroid Raine, also stationary from 21 Sagittarius, turning direct on August 5th, the very day Debby made her landfall. Raine is even more strongly focused on the T-Square with Jupiter and Saturn, that cosmic push-me/pull-you duo which reinforces extreme manifestations (Jupiter) and longevity (Saturn). Raine also squares Neptune at 29 Pisces, associated with the sea, water and flooding.
Other points of note for this storm potentially engendering unprecedented, record-breaking, historic rainfall totals include asteroid Flood 4220 at 29 Taurus, conjoined Uranus at 26 Taurus. Uranus promotes just such conditions of novelty and record-setting as anticipated, and increases the likelihood of electrical (also Uranus) outages in the region, with more than 300,000 experiencing power interruptions. The situation is exacerbated by another T-Square, with Uranus/Flood opposed TNO Typhon 42355 at 23 Scorpio, named for a mythic Titan who fosters sea storms and hurricanes. The fulcrum is inhabited by asteroids Achilles 588 (denoting vulnerability and exposure) at 19 Leo and Rainer 16802 at 25 Leo, an all-too-literal point for this rainmaker. Perhaps Venus, also here at 28 Leo, known as the Lesser Benefic, will help to ameliorate some of Debby’s worst effects, but the Mercury/Nemesis conjunction is also dragged into the pattern, so it’s doubtful we can hope for much succor from that quarter.
The Sun at 11 Leo squares asteroid Waterman 1822 at 7 Taurus, yet another allusion to Debby’s soggy and saturated attitude. This square is precisely angular for the 7 AM estimated landfall, enhancing its impact, with the Sun now exact on the 13 Leo Ascendant, and Waterman exact on the 8 Taurus MC.
Of course Debby herself has to be celestially represented, and she is. Asteroid Debye 30852 (alternate spelling) at 8 Cancer is exactly sesquiquadrate Typhon, that hurricane generator, at 23 Scorpio, also inconjunct stationary Storm and sextile Waterman. Asteroid Deborah 541, root of the diminutive nickname Debby, appears at 19 Cancer, conjoined asteroid Sturm 31043 at 24 Cancer, with Sturm the German word for “storm.” Deborah is inconjunct Raine and trine Typhon, in a Grand Trine with Saturn.
Debye and Deborah both square asteroid Georgia 359 at 15 Libra, with Debye also trine asteroid Carolina 235 at 7 Pisces, establishing these states as in the bullseye of the storm’s worst effects.
It’s been a slack summer for hurricanes thus far, which Debby as just the fourth named storm attests, but we’re just at the midpoint of the hurricane season, with plenty of time to make up ground.

I’m amazed each time I read about Asteroids how everything plays together and is correct.
Waiting for your book “Heaven on Earth”, have the Black Hole book and I couldn’t believe how it pointed out stuff no astrological chart showed! Thank you for everything…

Debby went on to drench Canada, in particular Montreal with record-breaking rain. But that’s not surprising since asteroid Debye had moved to 10 Cancer but was still conjunct the Canadian Sun at 8 Cancer and asteroid Deborah had moved to 21 Cancer conjunct the asteroid Montreal at 19 Cancer by the time she moved into Canada on August 9th. Asteroid Raine was still at 21 Sag conjunct asteroid Toronto which also went stationary direct at 19 Sag! Amazing! Toronto got soaked too but not as badly as Montreal. Thanks for inspiring me to look these up, Alex!
