Alex's Asteroid Astrology

The 97^th Academy Awards were presented on 2 March 2025, commencing at 4 PM PST in Los Angeles, California.  Thirteen of the nominees were first-time honorees, a record showing, and no more than appropriate, with a first-time host, Conan O’Brien, as well.  Newbies grabbed three of four acting awards, and among the record setters were Best Actor winner Adrien Brody (first person to have two wins for just two nominations, as well as the longest acceptance speech in Oscar history), and “Anora” director Sean Baker (first to win four Oscars for the same film, scooping up Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay and Film Editing).

Uranus at 23 Taurus conjoined the 15 Taurus Midheaven may have something to do with the novelty and record-setting, as does asteroid Records 30718 at 9 Taurus, conjoined asteroid Academia 829 at 6 Taurus (for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, which sponsors the awards), both signaling a breakout year with some shocks, surprises, and precedent-setting.  No surprise, since that was the focus of the night, we see the Sun at 12 Pisces opposed a pairing of asteroids Nike 307 and Actor 12238 at 3 and 7 Virgo, with a T-Square kicker offered by Jupiter, planet of fame and celebrity, on its fulcrum from 12 Gemini.  And indeed, that’s why we tune in – to see who will win (Nike, named for the Greek goddess of victory) those prestigious acting (Actor) awards and garner their share of the limelight (Sun), accruing additional renown (Jupiter).

Underscoring the theme of the event, we find a combination of asteroids Oskar 750 (alternate spelling) and Victoria 12 (Roman goddess of victory) at 17 and 22 Aquarius, spelling out “Academy Award winner” in plain astrologese, further emphasized by a conjunction with the 20 Aquarius Descendant, conferring Angular potency.  And if any of you are shocked by the fact that PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) for the big winners connect with one of these two victorious duets, then you haven’t been paying attention.

The night kicked off with a Best Supporting Actor award for Kieran Culkin in “A Real Pain,” one of those lucky newbies.  There are no good matches for either name, but asteroid Kulin 3019 phonetically approximates Culkin.  At 20 Aquarius, Kulin conjoins the Oskar/Victoria pairing at 17 and 22 Aquarius, also exactly conjunct the Descendant for the event.

Best Supporting Actress went to first-time nominee Zoe Saldana for “Emilia Perez.”  Again, no exact matches exist, but two surname variants fill the void.  Asteroid Saldanha 1456 is closest; at 27 Taurus it squares the Oskar/Victoria pairing.  Asteroid Soldan 14190 is next; at 3 Gemini it squares the Nike/Actor duet at 3 and 7 Virgo.  In trine to this is asteroid Zoeweiss 11420 at 7 Capricorn, a CNA, or Compound-Named Asteroid, which is comprised of both first and last names strung together as one word, which can be separated and used for either.

The upset of the night was probably newcomer Mikey Madison’s win as Best Actress for “Anora,” shutting out odds-on favorite Demi Moore, who had swept the category in earlier awards shows this season.  For Mikey we have asteroid Mika 4557, which at 26 Gemini is trine Oskar/Victoria as well as squared a triple conjunction of Saturn (peer recognition), Neptune (films) and Mercury (voting) at 20, 28 and 29 Pisces.  Two CNAs apply – asteroid Madisonsneve 34129 at 26 Pisces conjoins the triple conjunction, while asteroid Madisonicole 12942 at 4 Aries is semisquare Oskar/Victoria and inconjunct Nike/Actor.

Adrien Brody has made Oscar history for both his Best Actor wins.  In 2003, with his award for “The Pianist,” he became the youngest recipient in the category, at age 29, a record he still holds.  In 2025, his victory for “The Brutalist” puts him in another class all by himself, as the only actor to be only twice nominated, with wins both times.  Asteroid Adriana 820 is a feminine form of Adrien, and at 2 Gemini squares Nike/Actor.  Asteroid Brody 9974 is our only exact match (so far), and at 0 Libra is sesquiquadrate Oskar/Victoria. 

Born 14 April 1973 at 3:30 PM EST in Woodhaven, New York (Rodden Rating A), Adrien Brody’s birth chart is a good case study in Oscar winners.  Asteroid Actor at 21 Pisces conjunct the 19 Pisces Descendant, squared Saturn and the MC at 16 and 17 Gemini, establishes him as an actor by profession (Saturn), and one with a high-profile reputation and status (MC).  But the real potential shines through in a T-Square with asteroid Nike at 4 Pisces on the fulcrum, squared asteroid Oskar at 6 Gemini and Neptune at 7 Sagittarius, indicating Brody as an Oscar (Oskar)-winning (Nike) film star (Neptune).

At his first win, accepted on 23 March 1973, a transiting conjunction of Uranus and Nike at 0 and 9 Pisces set off this T-Square, suggesting the record-breaking (Uranus) win (Nike).  Note that Nike is also about to Return to its natal place, reigniting the natal potential.  As well, transit Nike T-Squares transit asteroids Adriana at 14 Gemini and Victoria at 17 Sagittarius, doubling down on the personal winning vibe for Brody that day.   Twenty-two years later, the transiting Nike/Actor pairing in Virgo filled in the missing leg of the natal T-Square to create a Grand Cross.

But the biggest newbie winner of the night was undoubtedly Sean Baker, nominated for the first time in four categories for “Anora,” and sweeping all four, taking home Oscar gold for “Best Picture,” “Best Director,” “Best Original Screenplay” and “Best Film Editing,” a feat no one has ever accomplished before.  Sean Baker has exact asteroid matches for both names; asteroid Baker 2549 at 18 Scorpio is not only squared Oskar/Victoria, but is also at station, turning retrograde on March 7^th.  Stations represent pivotal turning points for those persons, places or things with which they resonate, and asteroid Annona 8835, closest to “Anora,” is also at station, having turned direct February 25^th, suggesting a big night for the film and its director    Asteroid Sean 7051 at 5 Leo conjoins asteroid Karma 3811 at 3 Leo, an indication that Baker’s time has come, and appears in a T-Square with an opposition to Pluto (transformative agent, personal power) at 2 Aquarius, and squared asteroid Academia on its fulcrum, at 6 Taurus.

As noted above, it was also comedian Conan O’Brien’s first turn as Oscar host, and he reaped very favorable reviews for his performance.  The popular reception can be traced to asteroid O’Brien 21774 at 11 Aries, conjoined Venus at 10 Aries, the entertainer par excellence, and squared by asteroid Thalia 23 at 7 Capricorn, named for the Greek Muse of comedy, helping him “land” most jokes.

Taken all for all, another notable Oscar night, with records set that may take decades to surpass.
