On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Georgia State Representative Stacey Abrams became the first female African American to win a major party nomination for Governor, defeating opponent Stacey Evans in what became known as the “battle of the Staceys”. If she wins in November, she will be the first black female governor in the US.

Virginia’s Tied Race

 

You might think the 2017 elections are over and history, but you’d be wrong. There is one more race to be determined, in the Virginia House of Delegates. Incredibly, that race is exactly tied, with 11,608 votes apiece. The final outcome will be decided, not by any legal challenge or recount, but by the toss of a coin.

The Moore in question here is Judge Roy Moore, twice-elected and twice-deposed former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, who recently won a run-off primary election to emerge as the Republican candidate in the Alabama Special Election for Senate, to replace Jeff Sessions, who resigned to become US Attorney General in the Trump Administration.
