Nobody elected him to anything, he is ineligible for the high office he apparently holds, his work in restructuring government is unsanctioned, unofficial, and unconstitutional.  But Elon Musk has apparently effected a successful takeover of the US government, hostile or otherwise.  The head of Donald Trump’s bogus DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk is behaving like a classic Doge, the medieval, autocratic rulers of Venice, arbitrarily cutting staff, stopping funding, and eliminating entire departments at whim.

Yes, there are small protests; yes, congressional Democrats are objecting; yes, court challenges have been filed.  But in the main, the Musk bulldozer rolls on, crushing everything in its path.  What does a look at the birth chart of the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and X tell us about his plots and plans?

Born 28 June 1971 at 7:30 AM SAST in Pretoria, South Africa (Rodden Rating B), Elon Musk’s 5 Cancer Sun is closely conjoined by asteroid NOT 2857 at 6 Cancer, a general disqualifier or symbol of negation, making him a born contrarian, primed to go against the grain and resist conformity.  This is heightened by a square to Uranus at 9 Libra, noted as freethinking and rebellious.  Uranus straddles the line between genius and madness, conveying inventiveness and innovation, but represents eccentric, iconoclastic behaviors and impulsivity as well, and a desire to shock or offend others for the sake of it.

Also within orb of the Sun are asteroid Eros 433 at 10 Cancer, Mercury at 14 Cancer, and the Ascendant at 13 Cancer.  This defines Musk as extremely passionate (Eros) about his ideas (Mercury), for which he becomes the highly visible public face (Ascendant).  With Mercury closely conjunct the Ascendant, he can appear elfin or puckish to some, more youthful than his years.  Mercury descends from the Greek deity Hermes, a Trickster god, and individuals with a strong placement here (for which being conjoined both the Sun and Ascendant qualifies) sometimes delight in tweaking others’ sensibilities.

The square from Mercury to Uranus reinforces the genius/madman vibe, but also well identifies his various entrepreneurial enterprises.  The Mercury/Uranus combination pairs well with electric (Uranus) cars (Mercury), a la Tesla; space (Uranus) travel (Mercury), as witness SpaceX; and unrestricted (Uranus) self-expression (Mercury), with Musk having removed guardrails and factchecking from Twitter after he purchased the social media giant in 2022 and renamed it X.  Further confirmation of the Tesla obsession is offered by asteroid Tesla 2244, which at 29 Aries conjoins the 26 Aries Midheaven, the Tenth House cusp, ruling career, and is exactly trine asteroid Muskau 29053 at 29 Sagittarius, closest to “Musk.”  Muskau is also exactly squared asteroid Stargazer 8958 at 29 Virgo, perhaps portraying his alternate obsession with space.

Elon Musk’s foray into government is just as clear, with the right interpretive tools.  Mercury rests at the fulcrum of a T-Square pattern, with Mercury (ideas, plans, stratagems) reaching out to asteroids Washingtonia 886 with Pandora 55 (both at 16 Libra) and Whitehouse with Icarus 1566 (at 16 and 12 Aries respectively).  At a basic level, this shows Musk as the public face (Ascendant) of the administration (Whitehouse) policy (Mercury) to transform the federal government (Washingtonia), but note the qualifiers.

Pandora is named for the mythic figure who allowed curiosity to get the better of her, opening a box she had been warned to keep closed, and thus unwittingly releasing all the ills of mankind.  It represents the unleashing of unintended consequences.  Icarus is named for another character unable to listen to good advice, the boy who fell from the sky to his death when he flew too close to the sun, despite his father’s warning, melting his waxen wings.  It represents rash, reckless acts heedless of the consequences.  Both myths conjure the image of foolish choices making a situation worse, or leading to disaster, which suggests the reduction of American soft power globally by eliminating foreign aid, or hollowing out the FBI, CIA and Justice Departments, leaving the US weakened and unprepared to face adversaries at home and abroad.  Musk’s cost-cutting measures now could lead to serious consequences later, in a modern rendering of “penny wise and pound foolish.”

US courts have already stepped in to slow Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency, a meaningless Trump-crafted moniker designed to disguise the fact of its unofficial, extralegal status) bulldozer, prompted by suits filed by affected groups and individuals, leading to injunctions.  We can see this potential roadblock as Musk’s asteroid Justitia 269, named for the Roman goddess of justice and representing the courts, which is embedded at station in his birth chart, making it of signal importance in his life.  At 17 Scorpio, Justitia is trine Mercury, a possible brake on Musk’s ambition.

So we see a clear pull to the US capital via the Executive branch, but why now, in particular?

That’s answered by the placement of asteroid Troemper 28130, our celestial referent for Donald Trump, which at 15 Libra exactly conjoins asteroid Nike 307, and joins the Washingtonia/Pandora pairing.  Nike is named for the Greek goddess of victory, so it was Trump’s (Troemper) electoral success (Nike) in November that opened the door to Musk fulfilling his Oval Office potential, incapable of implementation via ordinary means, with Musk not a native-born American, and thus ineligible for the presidency per se.  Also here is asteroid Hybris 430 at 21 Libra, named for the Greek goddess of prideful arrogance, and denoting the tenor of Musk’s interventions.

As well, asteroid Donn 4689, another cosmic placeholder for Trump, falls at 25 Virgo, conjoined Pluto at 27 Virgo, signaling that The Donald (Donn) is Musk’s route to genuine power (Pluto), of the type that even the world’s richest man can’t command on his own.  There’s also an enhanced risk that their interactions will lead to criminal conduct (Pluto also).

But is this unholy alliance likely to last?  Donald Trump is famously jealous of the spotlight, and tends to distrust and isolate others in his orbit if they appear to him to be grabbing too much attention.  Recently we were granted the spectacle of the bizarre joint appearance of co-presidents Musk and Trump in the Oval Office, where the unofficial head-of-state held forth on a variety of subjects while the muted elected chief executive visibly chafed at the loss of the limelight, appearing diminished and sidelined, frowning at the antics of Musk’s irrepressible four-year-old son, who had unaccountably been included in the proceedings.

For now, with transit asteroid Muskau in early Sagittarius, opposing Jupiter in Gemini and trine Troemper in Leo, it appears to be smooth sailing (trine) for Musk’s (Muskau) Trump-facilitated (Troemper) venture into politics (Jupiter).  But transit Pluto at 2 Aquarius, bringing change, transformation, and possible destruction,  exactly conjoins Musk’s natal asteroid Achilles 588 currently, a point noted for exposing weakness or vulnerability.  Ultimately, with no official or elected position, Elon Musk is where he is by the grace, and at the whim, of Donald J. Trump.

If and when his usefulness as a fall guy and whipping boy for the blowback from the worst excesses of the Trump administration’s overhaul of government ceases, there’s little doubt that Elon Musk, like so many before, will be consigned to outer darkness by the 47^th president, who will doubtless aver in the aftermath, “Elon who?”
