Ten months after his murder, George Floyd’s family received some closure and a form of justice when the jury convicted his killer, former Officer Derek Chauvin, on all three counts of murder and manslaughter charges, after less than 11 hours of deliberation.  The evidence against him was so egregious, that outcome should have been beyond dispute, but in such racially charged cases of police misconduct, nothing is certain. 

The linchpin of the case against Chauvin was the cellphone video capturing his knee on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, taken by teenage passerby Darnella Frazier.  Minneapolis PD initially characterized his death as health-related, “while in custody, with no weapon discharged,” which obviously conceals the true nature of the incident.  Without that video, it’s likely Chauvin would have walked.  Which begs the question, how many other killers in blue still roam the streets in positions of authority, for simple lack of photographic evidence of their deeds?

In this analysis of the verdict, we’ll be using the following PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) for the dramatis personae:  George for George Floyd; Dereknelson, Derekshannon, Derekwoo (all compound-named asteroids with Derek) and Chauhan (closest to Chauvin) for Derek Chauvin; Peter and Cahill for presiding Judge Peter Cahill; and Darnella and Frazer for videographer and witness Darnella Frazier.

The verdict was announced at 4:06 PM CDT on April 20, 2021, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The Sun was in the last seconds of its ingress into 0 Taurus, conjunct Mercury (deliberations, decisions, verdicts) at 3 Taurus and squared a First Quarter Moon at 7 Leo.  These T-Square asteroid Dereknelson at 3 Aquarius, for the defendant, and Peter at 5 Aquarius, for the judge.  Saturn is here as well, at 12 Aquarius, representing the police, the law, and the penalty incurred (though it is wide of the square to the Sun).

Saturn does oppose the Moon, however, which is travelling with a variety of descriptors.  Trailing in its wake are asteroid Apophis at 28 Cancer (named for the ancient Egyptian personification of pure evil), asteroid Polizzi at 29 Cancer (for police, based in the German and Italian forms of the word, Polizei and Polizia), establishing a heinous act by a police officer; and asteroid Darnell (for Darnella) at 4 Leo, identifying the primary witness who revealed it.  The Moon is approaching asteroids Justitia at 15 Leo (named for the Roman goddess of justice, and the root of our word), Karma at 18 Leo (the results of our actions, being held accountable) and Photographica at 24 Leo (the video evidence), for the means of calling out the bad act and administering justice.  As he read it aloud, the judge noted that the verdict had been agreed upon by the jury at 1:44 PM CDT, at which point the Ascendant of 19 Leo was highlighting this latter grouping.

Apophis and Polizzi also participate in a Grand Cross with opposition to Pluto (criminal acts generally and homicide specifically) at 26 Capricorn, conjoined asteroid Themis at 25 Cap (named for the Greek goddess of justice); squared asteroid Chauhan at 23 Libra (closest to Chauvin) and asteroid Yes at 27 Aries (denoting the affirmative verdict of “guilty”).

The additional applicable PNAs shake out thus:  asteroid Cahill, for Judge Peter Cahill, falls at 18 Gemini, conjunct the 13 Gemini MC, for the judge who was the focus of all eyes in that moment of revealing the verdict; asteroid Frazer, for videographer Darnella Frazier, falls at 23 Pisces, conjunct Neptune (planetary ruler of photography) and the Descendant at 16 Pisces, its Angular placement confirming her evidence’s importance in the verdict; asteroid George at 16 Aries opposes asteroid Copland at 13 Libra, another indicator of police, widely T-Squared Themis/Pluto, for justice (Themis) done in his (George) murder (Pluto) by police (Copland).

Derekshannon at 12 Taurus squares Saturn and conjoins Uranus at 10 Taurus, and was elevated on the 9 Taurus MC for the time the verdict was agreed upon.  Derekwoo at 5 Sagittarius conjoins asteroid Nemesis at 11 Sagittarius, a point noted for cosmic justice, self-undoing, ruin and disaster.  The manacling of convicted murderer Derek Chauvin as he was led from the court directly to prison is seen in the tight opposition from TNO Ixion at 1 Capricorn, named for the first murderer in Greek myth, to asteroid d’Arrest at 0 Cancer, representing the handcuffs and detention generally.

Looking at Derek Chauvin’s natal chart (born 19 March 1976, no time available), we see two points at station and trine the 29 Pisces Sun:  asteroid Chauhan at 21 Scorpio (which turned retrograde six days prior) and asteroid d’Arrest at 27 Scorpio (which turned retro the day after).  This represents the immediacy and personal importance (Chauhan) of the act of arresting (d’Arrest) in Chauvin’s life, from his job description of arresting others to his own arrest.

In an earlier article on the murder itself, we noted the impact made by asteroid George in Chauvin’s birth chart.  At 26 Capricorn, George conjoins Nemesis at 24 Capricorn and is accompanied by asteroid Schwartz (German for “black”) at 27 Capricorn, all opposing Saturn at 26 Cancer and T-Squared Jupiter with asteroid Dereknelson at 28 and 27 Aries respectively.  This describes ruin and self-undoing (Nemesis) wrought by the death (Saturn) of a black man (Schwartz) named George (George), leading also to some degree of personal (Dereknelson) fame or notoriety (Jupiter). 

We can now add asteroid Frazer to this mix from 28 Capricorn, for Darnella Frazier’s part in bringing down Chauvin.  A secondary indicator of her role is asteroid Darnell at 9 Taurus, which lies in a T-Square opposing TNO Ixion at 10 Scorpio and squaring asteroid Photographica at 10 Aquarius for the witness (Darnell) who videoed (Photographica) Chauvin’s act of murder (Ixion).

Note that the d’Arrest placement for the verdict’s announcement exactly cojoins Chauvin’s natal Mars, ancient ruler of homicide; transit Yes exactly cojoins natal Dereknelson; and the MC for the actual voting on the verdict exactly matches natal Darnell, once again confirming the charge, Chauvin’s guilt, and the importance of Frazier’s evidence to the outcome.

And so this trial comes to a positive conclusion, but the struggle for justice goes on.  Two days before the verdict, police shot dead an unarmed twenty-year-old black man just ten miles away from the courthouse, and on the day Chauvin was convicted, Ohio police shot and killed a 16-year-old black girl with a knife.  There is much work still to do.
