Aster-Obit:  George Foreman

On March 21, 2025, former world heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman passed away peacefully at a Houston, Texas hospital, surrounded by family and friends.  No cause of death has been released.  Foreman dominated professional boxing in the 1970s; claiming the championship from the then-undefeated Joe Frazier in 1973, he held the tile for just a year before his loss to Muhammad Ali in “The Rumble in the Jungle.”  Foreman retired three years later, but made a brief comeback in 1994, becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion after defeating Michael Moorer.  In later life, Foreman became a household name for his endorsement and promotion of the eponymous “George Foreman Grill,” a small double-sided cooking appliance.  He is also remembered for his eccentric habit of naming each of his five sons after himself, merely adding regnal numbers to distinguish them.

Born 10 January 1949 at 9:15 PM CST in Marshall, Texas (Rodden Rating AA), George Foreman’s PNA (Personal-Named Asteroids) placements fit the typical pattern of interaction with the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Mercury (as ruling the naming function), with asteroid George 3854 at 2 Leo in exact sextile to the Moon at 2 Gemini, and opposed Mercury at 7 Aquarius.  Asteroid Forman 11333 (alternate spelling) at 19 Gemini is closely inconjunct the 20 Capricorn Sun.

foreman triumphant
George Foreman exults in his victory as world heavyweight champion in 1973; asteroid Champion appears conjunct Saturn (career) and the Ascendant (public image) in his birth chart

Likewise, Foreman’s eventual status as world heavyweight champion seems preordained, with asteroid Champion 8732 at 9 Virgo, conjunct career-minded Saturn at 5 Virgo and the Ascendant, governing our public image and how others see us, at 8 Virgo.  An early presentiment of his death in Houston is seen in asteroid Houston 3031 at 6 Pisces, conjoined asteroid Requiem 2254 at 7 Pisces, named for the funeral mass for the dead, and squared asteroids Anubis 1912 (Egyptian deity governing funerary rites) and Rip 7711 (“RIP”) at 2 and 3 Sagittarius, also opposed Saturn, ancient lord of death.

When Foreman wrested the heavyweight title from Frazier on 22 January 1973, their rivalry was depicted by asteroid George at 23 Scorpio squared asteroid Fraser 622398 (alternate spelling) at 21 Leo, and asteroid Forman at 29 Libra squared the Sun at 2 Aquarius with asteroid Frazer 10323 (another alternate spelling) at 7 Aquarius.  The solar connection guaranteed high visibility for the match, but Foreman’s victory and adoption of the title was signaled by Forman sesquiquadrate asteroid Nike 307 at 13 Pisces (Greek goddess of victory) and squared asteroid Champion at 22 Cancer, also trined by asteroid George.

foreman frazier
Against all odds, Foreman bests the undefeated Joe Frazier to become champion; at their match, asteroid George squared asteroid Fraser, and asteroid Forman squared asteroid Frazer, depicted their rivalry, but Forman squared asteroid Champion, and George trined, gave Foreman the win

Foreman’s hyper-identification with an eponymous cooking implement can be intuited from asteroid Cook 3061 at 25 Capricorn, conjunct the 20 Cap Sun.  Likewise, his viewing of his children as extensions of himself, giving each his own name, is suggested by the Sun’s square to asteroid Child 4580 at 24 Aries.  His eccentricity in doing this may be explained by a wide T-Square formed with Uranus at 15 Libra, which rules quirkiness, unconventionality and norm-breaking.

George Foreman touts his Foreman Grill; promoting an eponymous cooking appliance may be prefigured by asteroid Cook conjunct his Sun

At his death on 21 March 2025, asteroid George at 4 Sagittarius is stationary, indicating a major shift or pivotal change is in process.  George doesn’t turn retrograde until the 31st, but already inhabits its station degree, from where it is sextile an exact conjunction of Pluto (modern lord of death) and asteroid Houston (his place of death) at 3 Aquarius, and trine a conjunction of the Sun (pulling focus) and Mercury (news) at 1 and 7 Aries.  George is also trine asteroid Anubis at 9 Aries, increasing the mortality risk.

foreman sons
George Foreman (right), with sons George, George and George (not pictured, George and George); did Foreman’s Sun squared asteroid Child, in a T-Square with Uranus, prompt this quirky (Uranus) naming of all his male offspring (Child) after himself (Sun)?

As well, asteroid Forman at 13 Cancer is conjoined Mars and asteroid Champion at 20 and 22 Cancer, opposed asteroid Rip at 17 Capricorn.  This speaks to the death (Rip) of a boxing/sports (Mars) title holder (Champion) named Foreman (Forman).  Note also that Champion has returned to its exact degree for his winning of the title in 1973, a harking back to Foreman’s glory days and why his death merits global attention.

Still punching! George Foreman late in life; at his death in Houston, asteroid George was sextile an exact Pluto (modern lord of death)/asteroid Houston conjunction, with asteroid Forman conjunct Mars and asteroid Champion (sports title holder) opposed asteroid Rip (RIP)

Connections from the transit sky to George Foreman’s birth chart include transit asteroid George at 4 Sag conjoined natal asteroids Anubis and Rip at 2 and 3 Sag; transit asteroid Rip at 17 Capricorn conjunct the 20 Cap natal Sun; transit Pluto/Houston at 3 Aquarius conjoined the natal Mars/Mercury pairing at 5 and 7 Aquarius; transit Saturn (ancient lord of death) and asteroid Osiris 1923 (Egyptian god of the dead) at 23 and 27 Pisces T-Squared the exact natal opposition from Venus at 27 Sagittarius to Uranus at 27 Gemini, further augmented by transit Requiem at 23 Gemini; transit asteroid Lachesis 120 (named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life) at 1 Cancer squared its natal place at 5 Libra; transit asteroid Anubis at 9 Aries opposed natal Lachesis; and transit asteroid Atropos 273 (the Fate who severs the thread of life at death) at 16 Leo, conjunct natal Pluto at 15 Leo.
