Sally Sashays Ashore

Moving at barely a walking pace of 3 mph, Hurricane Sally made landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama as a Category Two storm at 4:45 AM CDT on September 16, 2020.  The storm promises to be one of the worst water-dumpers ever, with historic levels of rainfall expected and major flooding likely.  Up to 30” of rain is predicted in some locations, a devastating amount of precip as Sally slogs her soggy way across the south-east.

Astrologically, too, Sally promises to be a major event, fitting the pattern of her PNA (Personal-Named Asteroid) in major aspect to the Sun.  In this instance, we have asteroid Salli, an alternate spelling, which at 29 Sagittarius is squared the Sun, coming in just under the wire of 24 Virgo, at 23 Virgo 59 for her landfall.  A broad T-Square is created by Neptune, planetary ruler of floods, opposed the Sun from 19 Pisces, where it is accompanied by asteroid Achilles at 23 Pisces, a symbol of vulnerability, and asteroid Heracles at 25 Pisces, a symbol of strength and power.  In this case, vulnerability (Achilles) from water (Neptune), via a storm that already exceeded expectations for its strength (Heracles) at landfall.

With the Sun is asteroid Lachesis at 26 Virgo, named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life; with Salli is centaur Pholus at 1 Capricorn, associated with mass deaths, by whatever cause, exact with asteroid Osiris, named for the ancient Egyptian god of the dead; and in square is asteroid Requiem at 28 Pisces, named for the funeral mass for the dead, so there is reason for concern that loss of life may be greater than expected.

HS sally

With asteroid Salli in square to the Sun, Hurricane Sally promised to be a major storm in the 2020 hurricane season

Also tied to the pattern, and forming a loose Grand Cross, is asteroid Ophelia at 21 Gemini with TNO Chaos at 26 Gemini.  Ophelia of course is named for the tragic Shakespearean character from “Hamlet” who drowns herself, so inundation is one of this point’s specialties; Chaos represents just what it sounds like – disorder, anarchy, confusion, all of which are likely to ensue if Salli’s floods are as dire as anticipated.  Also with this Gemini grouping is centaur Asbolus at 25 Gemini, noted as a “sign of the times”, which Salli certainly is, another harbinger of the era of climate-change-induced Super Storms which will devastate much of the planet in decades to come.

There are additional points we can look to for clues to Salli’s force and power, and none of it augurs good.  Asteroid Storm at 24 Scorpio is powerfully angular, conjoined the IC of the chart at 26 Scorpio.  Storm is also accompanied by asteroid Memoria, exact on that IC, suggesting the hurricane (Storm) will be a memorable (Memoria) one.  Worse, Storm is at the fulcrum of a T-Square with asteroids Flood, Rainer and Sturm at 19, 21 and 23 Leo, and asteroid Kassandra exact with Damocles at 24 Aquarius.  Flood is self-explanatory here, and precisely what is feared most from Salli; Sturm is the German word for storm, and Rainer can be seen as “rain-er”, a major rain event.  Kassandra was noted for making predictions that weren’t popular or believed, but were always correct, while Damocles represents the doom hanging overhead, about to descend at any moment.  Hopefully Alabama and Florida residents in Salli’s path will believe the forecaster’s warnings and get out of her way post haste.

HS flooding

Flooding was the major issue with Sally, which dumped as much as 30″ of rain in some locations; asteroid Flood with Rainer (rain-er) trines Salli and squares asteroid Storm

Also with the Leo stellium described above are asteroids Apollo, Atlantis and Shor, at 24, 27 and 28 Leo.  Apollo was noted as a bringer of plague by the Greeks, and with potentially hundreds of square miles inundated for long periods, viral or insect-borne disease may incubate and spread.  The Atlantis myth features a civilization that is destroyed by a flood, and lends its own particular warning of deluge and inundation to the mix.  Shor stands for Gulf Shores, Alabama, the point nearest to Salli’s landfall; Shor was closely rising on the 29 Leo Ascendant when she came ashore, trine Salli (as is the rest of the Leo contingent).

Mercury is the planet most often associated with weather generally, and here appears exactly conjoined asteroid Nemesis at 15 Libra, a sign that this storm will be a major block or hindrance to progress, which some may see as retribution or reckoning.  A square from Jupiter at 17 Capricorn could bring a more positive outcome than expected, but is just as likely to inflate or exacerbate the situation, blowing it up to massive proportions.

Sally made landfall at Gulf Shores, Alabama, pictured above, with asteroid Shor conjoined the Ascendant and trine Salli; Shor also opposes Damocles, for the doom hanging overhead

In the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, just three weeks ago, Salli promises to be another major storm wreaking havoc, devastation and multi-billion losses.  Unfortunately, this sort of thing is likely the new normal, rather than the rare “once in a century” event these types of storms used to be.  With Hurricane Teddy already forming in the Atlantic, there is only one more name on the World Meteorological Organization’s 2020 list before we resort to using Greek letters for identification, and we are just at the peak of the storm season, which continues into November.  Only once before, in 2005, have we fallen back on the Greek alphabet, which contains just 24 letters.  Will it be enough?

Hi Alex, here are some asteroids for HURRICANE namely these: STORM, TYPHON, AND FLOOD. You may already have these.

Dear Alex, Once again, as before, the writing is phenomenal. Your use of the figures of speech are wonderful. I look forward to all your posts. All things stop when I see your email! I think you get the prize for asteroids. I am sure you know this: Studying Caeser in Latin Class, back in the day, I remember Sally/eruptus or eruptio
was defined as bursting forth or bursting out. When I saw the list and saw “Sally”, I thought – not a good one; could be dangerous. Shakespeare in another play – “What’s in a name”.
This storm is not done. I am watching the asteroids interact on True-Node and Serennu. At 73 I am actually studying your essays. Chaos has been giving us a rough ride for many years. And in a mercury ruled sign, no less. Keep up the great writing. If I remember correctly, there are a few nasty asteroids riding on Trump’s ascendant right now!
