Not ten miles away from the George Floyd murder trial, another unarmed black man needlessly lost his life during a traffic stop in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center. When police pulled him over, Daunte called his mother, worried what the outcome might be. The official story of why Daunte was stopped has changed; apparently, the initial charge was car deodorizers hanging from his rearview mirror. This shortly morphed into an expired license plate, during a pandemic where the DMV has been closed for months and processing of registration renewals has been notoriously delayed.
Once halted, police found a warrant for his arrest, for failure to respond to a misdemeanor hearing. When Daunte attempted to reenter his vehicle to flee the scene, he was shot by a 26-year veteran of the force, Kim Potter. He drove off, but the car crashed several blocks later, with Daunte dead at the wheel. Brooklyn Center PD characterized this as an “accidental shooting”, and Officer Potter’s bodycam footage seems to bear this out. After warning the struggling Daunte that he would be tased, she cautions nearby officers “Taser! Taser! Taser!”, discharges her service revolver, then exclaims “Holy shit, I just shot him!”
Unless this was an extraordinary well-thought-out CYA measure enacted in the moment, it seems that Potter did in fact shoot in error, but this does not absolve her and her fellow officers of responsibility in the death at a traffic stop that went horribly wrong and escalated needlessly.
Let’s see what the stars have to say. Daunte’s mother states that her son called her about 1:40 PM CDT, so that’s the time I’ve used for the following chart. Its aptness is apparent immediately, with asteroid Dante (homophone of Daunte) at 1 Taurus exactly squared the Ascendant/Descendant axis at 1 Leo and Aquarius. This placed Daunte Wright front-and-center in the critical moment of the traffic stop that led to his death. With the Sun just entering its orb of conjunction with Dante from 22 Aries, Daunte Wright was highly visible, illuminated for good or ill; with Dante fast approaching Uranus at 9 Taurus, the stage was set for a shocking, volatile event, with Uranus also ruling shootings generally, as well as the electric current of a taser. The Sun also opposes asteroid Black at 21 Libra, emphasizing the racial nature of the event.
Rising on the Ascendant was asteroid Atropos at 22 Cancer, named for the mythic Greek Fate who severs the thread of life at death, conjoined asteroid Polizzi at 28 Cancer, a celestial stand-in for “police” (based in the Italian form Polizia and German Polizei). So, a death caused by police. Pluto at 26 Capricorn has just set in the west; the modern lord of death, Pluto also rules homicide. Thus Sun, Pluto, Black, Atropos and Polizzi form a Grand Cross incorporating themes of racial heritage, death and the police. Which officer is involved? Asteroid Potter, for Kimberly Potter, at 3 Aquarius conjoins the Descendant at 1 Aquarius and Pluto, and opposes Polizzi, also closely squared Dante at 1 Taurus, for the conflict between them.
On the 12 Aries Midheaven are asteroid Rip at 13 Aries (which acts as a death indicator in the form of the acronym “RIP”, “Rest In Peace”, a common tombstone inscription) with Mercury at 14 and the Moon at 17 Aries; these oppose asteroid Copland at 15 Libra on the 12 Libra IC. This is the phone call (Mercury) to his mother (Moon) and the concern over his possible death (Rip) at the hands of police (Copland), and makes the event the focus of all eyes (MC) in the news cycle (Mercury).
The bodycam footage was essential in helping the story go viral. Asteroid Photographica represents all forms of photographic imagery, video or still shot, and came to its direct station at 23 Leo the week before, on April 3rd. (Note that just days earlier, the footage of another traffic stop was released, of an off-duty US Army lieutenant in Virginia, who was pepper-sprayed and generally humiliated by local police, pulled over for missing tags when a temporary tag was visible in his rear window. Note also the endless replay ad infinitum of the footage of George Floyd’s death during Derek Chauvin’s trial over this same period.) From there, Photographica opposes Jupiter at 25 Aquarius, bringing publicity and “fame”; Damocles at 29 Aquarius, which represents the impending doom; and asteroids Brooks and Wright at 19 and 24 Aquarius, identifying the victim, Daunte Wright, and the venue, in Brooklyn Center (asteroid Kate, for mother Katie Wright, appears at 14 Aquarius, wide of the overall pattern but conjoined Brooks and Wright). This polarity T-Squares asteroid Requiem at 25 Taurus, named for the funeral mass for the dead. Also here are asteroid Gunn and Kimberlyespy, at 17 and 18 Taurus, for the weapon and its shooter, Officer Kimberly Potter; these oppose asteroid Lachesis at 15 Scorpio, named for the Greek Fate who determines the span of life, a role Potter enacted for Wright in that moment.
Was the shooting accidental? The celestial jury says ‘yes.’ Neptune at 21 Pisces squares Mars at 22 Gemini, causing confusion (Neptune) in regards to weaponry (Mars). With Neptune is asteroid Osiris at 24 Pisces, named for the Egyptian god of the dead, and with Mars is asteroid Anubis at 21 Gemini, named for the Egyptian deity governing funerary rites, for a double dose of fatality-related energies with the incident. As well, asteroid NOT, a general disqualifier, appears at 1 Capricorn exactly conjunct TNO Ixion, named for the first murderer in Greek myth. In short, this was homicide, but not intentional murder.
Nevertheless, Daunte Wright died because of a pervasive attitude of suspicion, distrust and disrespect emanating from many police departments toward persons of color. His name will be added to the litany of justifiable grievances that community holds against law enforcement.
