Justin Trudeau Resigns

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada since 2015, resigned his office on 6 January 2025, after months of speculation regarding the fractious state of Canada’s government.  Trudeau was preceded out the door by deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland, who resigned suddenly in December 2024, sparking a political crisis.  Trudeau announced that he would resign as both the prime minister and leader of the Liberal Party, and advised Canada’s Governor General to prorogue parliament until March 24, while the Party holds a leadership contest.  Trudeau will remain in office until a new leader is chosen, after which he will formally resign as prime minister.

The announcement was made in Ottawa at 11:04 AM EST, with asteroid Justino 230631 (for Justin) at 0 Capricorn closely aligned with the 1 Capricorn MC, the highest point of elevation in the chart, and the focus of all eyes.  Accompanying Justino were Mercury at 27 Sagittarius, ruling the decision-making process and public statements; and asteroid NOT 2857 at 21 Sagittarius, which acts as a general disqualifier or symbol of an unwillingness to proceed.  This triumvirate squares a pairing of Neptune at 27 Pisces with asteroid La Canada 159164 at 25 Pisces, identifying a vacancy, withdrawal or absence (all Neptune) in Canada.

trudeau resigns
Justin Trudeau resigned his office as Prime Minister of Canada with asteroid Justino conjunct Mercury (decisions, statements) and asteroid NOT (unwillingness to proceed), squared asteroid La Canada conjunct Neptune (vacancy or absence)

The Sun at 16 Capricorn opposes asteroid Trudie 22900 at 21 Cancer (one of two variants of “Trudeau,” for which there is no exact match), placing Trudeau in the spotlight (Sun).  As well, asteroid Justiniano (another “Justin” placeholder) at 3 Aquarius conjoins Pluto at 1 Aquarius, suggesting a major transformation was in process, and a “death” of sorts, in the form of Trudeau’s political career.  This pair opposes Mars at 29 Cancer, representing taking action.

Asteroid Trudel 21753 (the other “Trudeau” referent) at 23 Scorpio exactly opposes Uranus at 23 Taurus, signaling something sudden, unexpected, and potentially controversial.  A T-square is formed with Damocles 5335 at 29 Aquarius on the fulcrum, a point noted as the doom or peril hanging overhead, about to descend at any moment.

Trudeau1
Trudeau helmed Canada for a decade; at his resignation, asteroid Kanata (native American name for the region) appears in a T-Square with Saturn (loss, limitation) and Jupiter (politics)

The 8 Aries Ascendant is conjoined by asteroid Dominiona 24899 at 5 Aries, a point named for Canada’s official title, “The Dominion of Canada”; and by the Moon (homeland) at 12 Aries.  Asteroid Canada-Assandri 11543, another point utilizing Canada in its name, appears at 15 Taurus, widely conjoined Uranus, for some shocks and upsets to that country.  Lastly, asteroid Kanata 52500, which was the indigenous people’s name for the region and the derivation of the modern term, falls at 10 Virgo, in a T-Square with Saturn (head of government) at 14 Pisces and Jupiter (politicians) at 12 Gemini.

Both Kanata and Canada-Assandri are also stationary, indicating vastly greater impact than normal, and representing a critical turning point.  Kanata turns retrograde January 12th, Canada-Assandri turned direct on December 25th (coincidently, Justin Trudeau’s 53rd birthday).  Both trine the Sun, forming a Grand Trine Kite Pattern, with the solar opposition to asteroid Trudie as its String.

Born 25 December 1971 at 9:27 AM EST in Ottawa, Canada (Rodden Rating A), the importance of his native land in Justin Trudeau’s biography is clearly signaled by asteroid Kanata at 15 Capricorn conjunct asteroid Trudel at 11 Capricorn and the Sun at 9 Capricorn, making Canada self-defining for him in some sense.  As well, asteroid La Canada is stationary, turning retrograde on December 31st; at 12 Virgo, La Canada also conjoins the 3 Virgo Ascendant, indicating that a connection to Canada would be a powerful influence on his public image (Ascendant).

trudeau2
With his Sun conjunct asteroids Kanata and Trudel, and asteroid La Canada at station, conjoined his Ascendant, Justin Trudeau’s self-identification with the nation was obvious

La Canada trines the Sun, and with asteroid Justiniano at 17 Taurus forms a Grand Trine Kite pattern, with asteroid Canada-Assandri at 19 Cancer on its String, widely opposing the Sun.  Also in opposition to the Sun is asteroid Trudie at 1 Cancer, so three of four PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) fit the typical pattern of connection with the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Mercury.

Transit Uranus came to its station retrograde at 27 Taurus in September 2024, exactly conjunct the natal Midheaven, setting the stage for major disruption and upheaval (Uranus) in matters of career (Midheaven).  Shortly after, conservatives essentially shut down Canada’s parliament, creating an impasse from which Trudeau’s extraction became the only tenable solution.

trudeau strip
Early in his political career, then MP Justin Trudeau famously performed a partial striptease at a charity event for the Canadian Liver Foundation; asteroid Streep (for “strip”) appears at station in the birth chart, trine the Sun

When Trudeau made his announcement, transit asteroid Justino at 0 Capricorn was exactly squared natal asteroid NOT at 0 Libra, that signifier of an inability or unwillingness to proceed, forming a T-Square with natal Trudie at 1 Cancer, opposed by NOT.  NOT conjoins natal Pluto at 2 Libra, representing the total transformation (Pluto) in Trudeau’s circumstances, as well as the power (also Pluto) he was yielding (NOT).  Transit asteroid Trudel at 23 Scorpio was conjoined the natal Midheaven, underscoring career changes in the offing.  Transit Uranus at 23 Taurus, in addition to exactly opposing transit Trudel, brought out a T-Square with an exact square to natal asteroid Dominiona at 23 Leo, that final marker for Canada, pointing up shocks to the system (Uranus) for both the country and its leader.  The transit Sun at 16 Capricorn rested on the fulcrum of a second T-Square formed with the precise natal opposition of the Moon at 17 Aries and Uranus at 17 Libra, again affirming the essential shock and disruption felt in the decision, as well as a likely emotional component (Moon), also affecting residence (Moon again, with Trudeau leaving the Official Residence of the Prime Minister, which he has occupied for 10 years).

History will judge the effectiveness or lack thereof of Justin Trudeau’s leadership, but at age 53, there is plenty of time for an Act Two.

Get well soon!

Great work, Alex! The asteroids have spoken but I also expect there will be an Act Two and eventually history will remember Trudeau kindly. Right now people are too angry about the cost of living crisis to be charitable. Thanks Alex!

The cost of living crisis seems to be world-wide, but individual governments are not exactly coming up with sensible plans to mitigate it in any way…

Wish you better soon, Alex.
