It’s time for another installment of Cosmic Grab Bag, AAA’s catchall collection of smaller stories that were skipped in real time, but deserve honorable celestial mention.  In this issue we deal with a royal “first” in religion, a World Series outcome, a royal demotion, and a Supreme Court hearing.

ON A KING & A PRAYER

On October 23^rd, Britain’s King Charles III became the first English monarch to pray with a Catholic pontiff in public for five hundred years, during his visit to Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.  The ecumenical service took place in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, scene of Leo’s election just six months prior.  In a bid for reconciliation, Pope and King prayed side-by-side as Catholic and Anglican choirs sang together, symbolizing the rapprochement between the two faiths, once bitter enemies.  The two churches had been sundered since Henry VIII severed the Church of England from the Papacy’s jurisdiction in 1534, over a divorce dispute.

The Sun at 0 Scorpio conjoined asteroid Pappos 29448 at 3 Scorpio, cognate to Papa, Italian for “pope,” set the stage for the spotlight on the interfaith reconciliation.  Asteroid Chaple 11821, also conjunct at 9 Scorpio, alternate spelling of “chapel,” defined the field of engagement.

Jupiter represents both pope and king, as ruler of religion and royalty; at 24 Cancer, it opposes a pairing of asteroids Rey 13647 (Spanish for “king”) and Britten 4079 (phonetic match for “Britain”) at 22 and 23 Capricorn, establishing Britian’s monarch as the king in question, while a T-Square formed with asteroid Leona 319 (feminine form of Leo) at 19 Libra namechecked the precise pontiff involved.

Libra is the Sign of harmony, peace and reconciliation, appropriate for the pray-ers’ goal; also here is a conjunction of Venus, ruler of Libra and diplomatic endeavor, and asteroid Roma 472, named for the Eternal City which surrounds the Vatican state, further portraying the location of the love-in, and its purpose.

There’s no asteroid Pray, but asteroid Prey 6157, a phonetic match, can stand in without undue fear of blasphemy.  At 2 Libra, Prey exactly conjoins asteroid Italia 477, named for Italy, the meeting’s general location, as well as Neptune, ruling spiritualty and unity, at 29 Pisces.  An opposition to asteroid Michelangelo 3001 at 1 Libra, named for the artist who designed and painted the Sistine Chapel, again reiterates the venue.  This opposition forms the spine of a Grand Trine Kite (Prey on the String as the driver of the pattern) with sextiles to Uranus at 0 Gemini and Pluto at 1 Aquarius, denoting the unconventional, record-making nature of the joint prayer (Uranus) as well as the potential for creating a transformational moment (Pluto).

Queen Camilla accompanied King Charles on his Vatican visit, as attested by the conjunction of asteroid Queen’s 5457 at 6 Virgo with asteroid Vaticana 416, named for the hill where the Catholic HQ was built, at 0 Virgo.  Her proximity to the Pope, the former Robert Prevost, is signaled by asteroid Camilla 107 at 6 Cancer, conjunct both asteroid Roberta 335 at 28 Gemini, a feminine version of the name, and asteroid Prevot at 13 Cancer, closest to Prevost.

ARTFUL DODGERS

On 1 November 2025, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally ended the agony experienced by their fans during the seesaw fall classic competition, winning the World Series in Game Seven, after being down 3-2.  To accomplish this feat, they needed back-to-back wins on the home turf of the rival Toronto Blue Jays, and against all odds, the Dodgers pulled it off.

Fans needn’t have troubled themselves, however, as the seeds of a Dodgers victory were planted, and clearly visible, from the outset of the Series, which began at 8 PM EDT on 24 October 2025 in Toronto.

Neither team has a referent for its name, but asteroids indicating both home cities can be used to represent them, as well as asteroids identifying their countries (since this was an international competition between teams from Canada and the US).  Asteroid Toronto 2104 is named for the Blue Jays’ city of residence, but we have to dig a bit deeper for an L.A. referent.  Los Angeles means “the angels,” and L.A. residents are called “Angelinos,” so asteroids Angelina 64 and Angel 11911 are appropriate markers.  In addition, the Dodgers are represented broadly by asteroid America 916, for the US, while the Blue Jays can be seen as asteroids La Canada 159164, Canada-Assandri 11453, and Kanata 52500 (the local indigenous people’s name for the region that became Canada).

From the first pitch, the Dodgers had the celestial lead, with asteroid Angelina at 14 Aquarius on the 11 Aquarius MC, the point of highest elevation in the chart and the focus of all eyes, ruling status and reputation.  As well, Angelina squared a combo of asteroids Yes 7707 and Victoria 12 (named for the Roman goddess of victory) at 13 and 16 Taurus, affirming (Yes) the L.A. team’s (Angelina) win (Victoria). 

Asteroid Angel at 29 Libra also supported success, conjoined the spotlighting Sun at 0 Scorpio and asteroid Nike 307, named for the Greek goddess of victory, at 22 Libra.  In addition, asteroid America at 22 Leo is exactly squared Mars at 22 Scorpio, ruling athletes and competitions, perhaps granting an edge in energy and stamina (Mars) to the US Team.

In stark contrast, all of the Bue Jays’ markers are tied up with negative indicators.  Asteroid Toronto at 28 Aquarius (opposed America, signaling the cross-town rivalry) closely conjoins Damocles 5335 at 29 Aquarius, warning of impending threat, doom or peril.

Asteroid Canada-Assandri at 8 Virgo conjoins asteroid Losse 340579 at 13 Virgo, phonetic match for “loss.”  Asteroid La Canada at 15 Cancer is exactly semisquare Uranus at 0 Gemini, providing shocks and upsets, which is also widely squared by Canada-Assandri.

Worst of all, asteroid Kanata at 15 Scorpio exactly conjoins asteroid Lacks 359426, another symbol of diminishment, deficiency or falling short, as well as conjunct asteroid Nemesis 128 at 20 Scorpio, indicating an enemy or opponent, a roadblock to progress or success, and ruin or destruction, often self-created.

In broader conjunction to Kanata are Mars at 22 Scorpio and Mercury at 25 Scorpio, symbolizing a newsworthy (Mercury) sports event (Mars).  Mercury also rules pitchers, and with Mercury conjunct Nemesis and Kanata, we see pitching as especially inimical for the Canadian team, a source of downfall (Nemesis).  Indeed, Dodgers pitching/hitting phenom Shosei Ohtani was in large part responsible for the Americans’ success (with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 6 runs in the 2025 World Series), as depicted by Mercury/Nemesis squared asteroid Otani 9844, a phonetic match for the Japanese-born player.

Important as his contribution was, Ohtani wasn’t named MVP for the World Series.  That honor went to Dodgers teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as portrayed by asteroid Yamamoto 2249 at 23 Cancer, closely cojoined celebrity-and-fame-maker Jupiter at 24 Cancer, also ruling professional sports.

THE ROYAL FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE

On 30 October 2025, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles was stripping his brother, Prince Andrew, of all titles, styles and honors, a response to the ongoing scandal of Andrew’s involvement with notorious American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.  Andrew had tried to avoid the ultimate penalty weeks earlier by voluntarily relinquishing use of his title as Duke of York, though not the title itself, but the half-measure didn’t sate the public opprobrium and outrage which two new tell-all bios have unleashed on the royal head in recent months.  Andrew will even lose the honorific and style of “Prince,” reverting to simply “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” the Royal Family’s legal surname.

Andrew’s demotion and discomfiture is vividly portrayed celestially, from several angles.  A difficult, fraught time in 2025 generally for the former Duke of York is seen in an ongoing extended conjunction of asteroid York 28220 and Damocles, indicating a looming threat or peril hanging overhead for Andrew (York), about to descend at any moment (Damocles).  The York/Damocles pairing, now at 25 and 29 Aquarius, has dominated the year, with the pair running within ten degrees of each other from May through January of 2026, placing Andrew in continual jeopardy for the period.

Asteroid Andree 1296, the French version of Andrew (for which there is no exact match in English), is now at 0 Sagittarius, squared this conjunction.  Undaunted, the cosmos rubs salt in the royal wound with conjunctions from Andree to asteroid Nemesis at 22 Scorpio, noted for bringing ruin and destruction, often self-created; and Mars, indicating sexual matters as the root cause of the problem, at 26 Scorpio.  Also in tow, Mercury at 1 Sagittarius, making Andrew newsworthy again, also symbolizing the Palace’s declaration of the demotion, with official statements Mercury-ruled.  Andree’s exact opposition to Uranus at 0 Gemini encapsulates both the controversy itself, and the shock to the system the demotion provides.  (Uranus also rules separation and divorce, perhaps a nod to the distance Charles is seeking to create between his hot-potato brother and the rest of the Windsors.)

A square from asteroid Duke 20037 at 21 Sagittarius to a conjunction of Saturn and Neptune at 25 and 29 Pisces evokes the loss (Saturn) of Andrew’s title (Duke), which has seemingly evaporated or disappeared (both Neptune) overnight.

Lastly, a T-Square pulls no punches in defining the event, based on an opposition from Jupiter at 24 Cancer, ruling royalty, to a pairing of asteroids Britten 4079 (phonetic match for “Britain”) and NOT 2857 (a general disqualifier or symbol of negation) at 24 and 26 Capricorn, with asteroid Prinz 4595 (German for “prince”) on the fulcrum at 25 Libra.  This spells a Brit (Britten) Royal (Jupiter) who is a prince (Prinz) no longer (NOT).

King Charles, as Andrew’s landlord at the luxurious Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, is also tossing out his sibling tenant, fobbing off the errant ersatz prince with a small home on the family’s privately-owned Sandringham Estate, not part of the Crown Lands.  Perhaps Andrew can use the prior rental fee for Royal Lodge, one peppercorn per annum, to grind and sprinkle on his bubble-and-squeak.

BREATH & TAXES

On 5 November 2025, the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding the legality of the Trump administration’s ad hoc implementation of tariffs globally via executive order, based on a 1977 law which grants the president authority to “regulate importation” during an emergency.  At the core of the issue is whether tariffs, as a form of tax over which the Congress is given sole jurisdiction by the US Constitution, can be considered a regulation; and exactly who determines what constitutes an “emergency,” activating the latent presidential power.

US Solicitor General John Sauer defended the government’s position, opposed by plaintiff’s lead lawyer Michael M. McConnell.  Justices from both sides of the political aisle seemed dubious of Trump’s authority, based in the wording of the legislation being used to assert it.  Chief Justice John Roberts, a key swing vote, stated that the administration’s insistence that the legislation granted “a power to impose tariffs on any product, from any country, in any amount, for any length of time,” in his opinion, “seemed to be misfit.”  Reliable Trump stalwarts Thomas Clarence, Samuel Alito, and “middle child” Trump appointee Brett Kavanaugh seemed supportive of the president’s case.

But both Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, Trump’s first and third picks for the SCOTUS, expressed concerns that the tariff power, once conferred, would be difficult for Congress to reclaim in the future, joining liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson in their skepticism of the claim.  Barrett queried Sauer further, asking, “Can you point to any other place in the code – or any other time in history – where that phrase, together, ‘regulate importation’ has been used to confer tariff imposing authority?” to which the Solicitor General could offer no examples.

The case will likely not be decided until the end of term in June 2026, leaving businesses and consumers in tariff limbo, uncertain what costs may be incurred in foreign trade.

The Trump administration in a courtroom setting was on full celestial display, with the Sun at 13 Scorpio conjoined asteroids Sauer 9248 (for Solicitor General John Sauer) and Troemper 28130 (our cosmic referent for The Donald), both at 6 Scorpio, and asteroid Themis 24 at 4 Scorpio, named for the Greek goddess of justice.  Themis and asteroid Justitia 269, named for her Roman counterpart, both relate to the SCOTUS and its Justices specifically, while Jupiter rules courts and judges more generally.  A square from the early Scorpio points to Pluto at 1 Aquarius, ruler of taxation, identifies the power (also Pluto) in question.

The Sun also conjoins asteroid Barrett 111558 at 20 Scorpio, aligned with asteroid Nemesis at 24 Scorpio, placing Justice Amy Coney Barrett in the spotlight (Sun) as a possible obstruction or opponent (Nemesis) to the administration’s agenda.

Chief Justice Roberts would also seem to be in the “no” camp, with asteroid Roberts 3428 at 23 Libra, on the fulcrum of a T-Square formed with an opposition from Jupiter at 25 Cancer (conjunct asteroid Donn 4689, another Trump marker) to asteroid NOT at 28 Capricorn, suggesting a pending Roberts refusal (NOT) to tow the administration (Donn) line in this court case (Jupiter).  Asteroid McConnell 9929 at 25 Aries, for plaintiff counsel Michael M. McConnell, completes a Grand Cross and marks all major players in the suit as cosmically present and accounted for.

An exact pairing of asteroid Whitehouse 4036 with Mercury at 5 Sagittarius conjoins Mars at 0 Sagittarius, opposing Uranus at 0 Gemini, and tells the tale of controversial (Uranus) administration (Whitehouse) arguments (Mars) at this hearing (Mercury).  A T-Square formed with Damocles at 29 Aquarius signals the looming threat to a power-mad Donald Trump’s ability to order the world as he sees fit, by personal fiat.
