Don’t Mess with the Zohran

On Tuesday, 24 June 2025, 33-year-old State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party structure when he won the primary in the New York City mayoral race, besting frontrunner Andrew Cuomo, a former New York governor, by some twelve points, in a stunning upset.  Mamdani, who describes himself as a Democratic Socialist and entered the race last November with 1% support in polling, ran an effective grassroots campaign based on making the Big Apple more affordable for working class families, presenting himself as a populist fighter.  If elected in November, he will be the first Muslim and naturalized citizen to serve as New York City’s mayor.

mamdani vote
Zohran Mamdani blitzed former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral primary, 56%-44%; a Sun/Jupiter conjunction squared natal asteroid TRIUMF, and transit TRIUMF squared his natal Sun, evoked the unqualified success

Born 18 October 1991 at 1:15 AM EAT in Kampala, Uganda (Rodden Rating A), Mamdani’s family moved to Manhattan when he was 7; he was naturalized in 2018.  Asteroid Kampala 1948 at 3 Scorpio, exactly conjunct Mercury and also conjoined the IC at 4 Scorpio, suggests a childhood (Mercury) spent in Kampala, and Uganda (Kampala is the capital) as his homeland (IC).

Mercury further conjoins Mars at 1 Scorpio, on the fulcrum of a T-Square with the 0 Leo Ascendant and Saturn conjoined the Descendant at 0 Aquarius.  This establishes Mamdani’s public image (Ascendant) as a populist (Mercury) fighter (Mars), so crucial for his career success (Saturn).  The Sun at 24 Libra opposed TNO Eris 136199 at 16 Aries suggests an affinity with populations that identify as marginalized, sidelined or disrespected.  Note that this opposition has now perfected, with Eris darting back and forth between 24 and 25 Aries throughout 2024-25, as Mamdani rolled out his campaign, won the primary, and faces the general election in November, more closely aligning himself with the downtrodden constituents he so clearly connects with.

mamdani volunteers
Mamdani mobilized an army of 50,000 volunteers to canvass the city on his behalf; natal Sun opposed Eris shows his self-identification (Sun) with marginalized, downtrodden populations (Eris), while a Mars/Mercury conjunction indicates his appeal as a populist (Mercury) fighter (Mars)

A mayoralty defining Mamdani as a “man of the people” is prefigured by asteroid Mayo 4960 (closest to “mayor”) at 11 Aquarius, conjoined the Moon (the public) at 17 Aquarius; an opposition to asteroid Demokritos 6129 at 15 Leo signals his Party affiliation, while a T-Square formed with Pluto conjunct asteroid Nike 307 at 19 and 22 Scorpio suggests an increase in personal power (Pluto) from a victory (Nike, Greek goddess of victory) as a Democratic (Demokritos) mayoral candidate (Mayo).  Reinforcing the “winning” vibe in a run for mayor is asteroid Victoria 12 at 23 Virgo (named for the Roman goddess of victory), in sesquiquadrate to Mayo.  Significantly, Victoria was exactly conjoined by the Lunar Eclipse of March 14th, energizing his innate ability to succeed.

“Affordability” was the watchword of Mamdani’s campaign; transit Venus (everyday financial matters) opposed natal Nike (Greek goddess of victory) on election day brought him the win; a natal Jupiter/Venus conjunction intertwines money and politics

Unqualified success as a progressive in New York City is imaged by asteroid TRIUMF 14959 (an acronym for a Canadian science research facility, but acting in its phonetic match usage as “triumph”) at 1 Libra, squared a pairing of asteroid Manhattan 12464 (for NYC) and Uranus (progressivism) at 7 and 10 Capricorn, with a T-Square formed by asteroid Yes 7707 at 4 Cancer, a generally affirmative energy.

When Zohran Mamdani won the primary election on June 24th, several transits supported his victory.   The Sun and Jupiter exactly conjunct at 3 Cancer throws a bright spotlight (Sun) on politics (Jupiter) and suggests a good day for somebody.  That it might be Mamdani is seen in that pair’s conjunction with asteroid Yes at 4 Cancer, closely trine the Mars/Mercury pairing in Scorpio.  Sun/Jupiter also opposes natal Manhattan/Uranus, depicting a political (Jupiter) earthquake (Uranus) in the Big Apple (Manhattan), with an affirmative outcome (Yes) for Mamdani.  A Grand Cross is formed by transit Saturn and Neptune, at 1 and 2 Aries, and natal asteroid TRIUMF, at 1 Libra.  Saturn represents career matters generally, and chief executives such as mayors specifically; Neptune signals someone inspirational, viewed as empathetic, who can garner support for his idealistic (if perhaps impractical) platform; TRIUMF speaks to the overwhelming success. Transit Venus at 18 Taurus, exactly semisquare the Sun/Jupiter conjunction, shows everyday financial matters and affordability (Venus) as key factors in the race.

mamdani speech
Mamdani offers heartfelt thanks at his victory speech; a Lunar Eclipse exactly conjunct natal asteroid Victoria (Roman goddess of victory) three months before the primary energized his “winning” vibe, while a transit conjunction with Victoria of asteroids Manhattan and Demokritos on election day ensured his success (Victoria) in the NYC (Manhattan) Democratic (Demokritos) race

As well, transit asteroid Victoria at 27 Aries opposes the natal Sun at 24 Libra, funneling more winning energies into Mamdani, while natal Victoria at 23 Virgo is bookended by transit asteroids Manhattan and Demokritos at 19 and 25 Virgo, defining the Democratic primary (Demokritos) in New York City (Manhattan) as Mamdani’s field of victory (Victoria).  A pairing of transit Mars and asteroid Nike at 4 and 10 Virgo congregates atop a natal Jupiter/Venus conjunction at 7 and 8 Virgo, indicating a winning (Nike) political (Jupiter) campaign (Mars) based in financial issues (Venus).  Natal Nike at 22 Scorpio is opposed by transit Venus and Uranus at 18 and 29 Taurus, portraying the upset (Uranus) win (Nike) for the unexpectedly (Uranus) popular (Venus) candidate.

Transit asteroid Yes at 4 Taurus forms a T-Square with transit Pluto at 3 Aquarius and transit asteroid Mayo at 9 Leo, suggesting some form of positive (Yes) transformation (Pluto) in the mayoral race (Mayo).  This energy is funneled directly into Mamdani’s chart by the completion of a Grand Cross with natal Mars/Mercury at 1 and 3 Scorpio, reflecting the election (Mercury) campaign (Mars).  Also in this mix, natal Saturn at 0 Aquarius and natal asteroid Mayo at 11 Aquarius.  Saturn indicates career and chief executives; Mayo specifies which top job is on the line.

mamdani posters
In the manner of ubiquitous Trump yard signs in rural America, which presaged his 2016 victory, New York City was plastered with Mamdani posters in the months before the vote; transit Mercury (the vote) conjunct asteroid TRIUMF (success), squared transit asteroid Victoria (winning), formed a T-Square with Mamdani’s natal Sun, bringing home the victory

A word of caution here:  Pluto is also scandal and corruption.  We’ve already got a whiff of that here, both in the alleged corruption of current NY mayor Eric Adams, who will be running as an Independent in November against Mamdani; and in the reactions to Mamdani’s apparent refusal to disavow certain inflammatory pro-Palestinian statements.  Pluto is still eight degrees from Mamdani’s natal Mayo, but this slow-mover will catch it up in the spring of 2030, just as Mamdani begins a second term, should he be successful in attaining the office.

And just what are the chances of that?  It’s looking good for Zohran Mamdani on November 4, but the field isn’t entirely set yet.  Eric Adams will run as an Independent, and Curtis Sliwa will reprise his perennial role as doomed Republican nominee, but there’s a huge question mark regarding what Andrew Cuomo will do.  Soundly beaten by Mamdani in the primary, Cuomo has not revealed his intentions, but if he chooses to also run as an Independent, then the progressive vote will be split three ways, and the outcome may be more difficult to determine.

mamdani walk
On the Friday before the primary, Mamdani walked the nine-mile length of Manhattan, emphasizing his youth and vigor; asteroid Walker at station was exactly sesquiquadrate the exact Sun/Jupiter conjunction, exactly opposed Venus, for a political (Jupiter) campaign focused (Sun) on monetary issues (Venus)

Setting aside the uncertainty for now, Mamdani’s prospects are rosy.  The Sun of the general election at 12 Scorpio conjoins natal Mars/Mercury (1 & 3 Scorpio) and squares natal Mayo (11 Aquarius), also squared by transit Victoria at 13 Taurus.  Transit Demokritos and Mars at 25 and 29 Scorpio conjoin natal Nike at 22 Scorpio.  Transit Nike at 9 Virgo conjoins natal Jupiter/Venus (7 & 8 Virgo), squaring transit Mercury (the vote) at 5 Sagittarius.  Transit Mayo at 26 Virgo conjoins natal Victoria at 23 Virgo.  Transit Venus and Nike, both at 26 Libra, conjoin the natal Sun at 24 Libra, which is squared by transit Jupiter at 25 Cancer.

That’s a powerful peck of political positives, which could well lead to Zohran Mamdani being addressed as “His Honor the Mayor,” come January 2026.
