Alex's Asteroid Astrology

On October 21, 2021, police were called to the set of “Rust”, a western being filmed in Bonanza City, New Mexico.  An accidental shooting with a prop gun, discharged by star Alec Baldwin, had killed the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and wounded director Joel Souza.  The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but somehow, live ammunition was loaded into a real revolver, not blanks in a prop gun.  While setting up the next shot, with the gun pointed at the camera and the cinematographer, the weapon discharged; Baldwin’s statement is that he had cocked the gun, based on Hutchins’ instructions, but did not pull the trigger.

The “Rust” set had been plagued with safety violations and concerns for weeks, with seven crew members staging a walkout that same morning in protest for working conditions.  Before the day of the incident, two prop guns had previously fired a total of three times unintentionally, but the production had not initiated an investigation into the faulty discharges.  The assistant director, Dave Halls, had been cited for safety violations on earlier productions, and the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, had limited experience; “Rust” was her second film serving in this capacity.

A chart set for 1:46 PM MDT in Bonanza City, NM, when the 911 call was placed to police, shows the four cast and crew members most directly involved, clustered together about the 13 Scorpio MC, the focus of all eyes, both in the moment and the subsequent investigation.  Asteroids Hanna and Reid (for armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, alternate spelling and phonetic matches for Hannah and Reed) at 3 and 9 Scorpio bookend asteroid Galina at 5 Scorpio, representing victim Halyna Hutchins (Halyna is an East Slavic name, the Ukrainian transliteration of what is rendered as Galina in Russian; Ms Hutchins was born in Ukraine).  These join asteroid Davida (for assistant director David Halls, feminine form of David) at 17 Scorpio and asteroid Alexander (for star Alec Baldwin, his given first name) at 24 Scorpio; it may be significant that Alexander is just out of orb of the MC, though still one of the most elevated points in the chart.

Baldwin’s culpability is further hinted at, however, with Alexander at the fulcrum of a T-Square with asteroids Gunn (phonetic match for “gun”) conjoined Requiem (named for the funeral mass for the dead) at 23 and 24 Leo, and asteroid Hall (also for assistant director Dave Halls) at 25 Aquarius, joined by Damocles (the doom hanging unseen overhead) at 24 Aquarius and Jupiter (which inflates and exacerbates situations) at 22 Aquarius.

Uranus, ruling shootings, accidents, rash or reckless actions, and explosions of all types, from a nuclear blast to the pop-pop-pop of a handgun, is exactly on the 13 Taurus IC, opposing most of the MC stellium.

Asteroids Rusty (for “Rust”) and Hutchison (one of two variations for Hutchins) at 2 and 5 Aquarius lie at the Apex of a Yod, or Finger of Destiny pattern, with inconjuncts to death indicators asteroids Rip (“RIP”) at 2 Cancer and Anubis (named for the Egyptian deity governing funerary rites) at 4 Virgo, placing Hutchins on site at the venue of her death, the “Rust” set, and suggesting a rendezvous with Fate.  Asteroid Hutchings, the other variation of her surname, appears at 21 Cancer, from where it opposes Pluto, modern lord of death (also ruler of homicide specifically) at 24 Capricorn, on the 22 Capricorn Ascendant, and T-Squares the Mars/Sun conjunction at 23 and 28 Libra, which in itself speaks to a focus or highlight (Sun) on issues of guns and violent death (Mars).

Baldwin and Hutchins are further combined celestially in a grouping of asteroid Alex (for Alec, and a shortened form of his given name) at 23 Sagittarius with asteroid Helena (closest phonetically to Halyna) and TNO Ixion (named for the first murderer in Greek myth), both at 29 Sagittarius.  These also join in a third T-Square, with squares to asteroid Susa (phonetic match for Joel Souza, the film’s director, wounded in the shoulder by the same bullet that killed Hutchins) at 25 Virgo and Neptune at 20 Pisces, ruling confusion, misdirection and conspiracy.  Peripheral to this pattern is asteroid Gutierrez, for the armorer, which at 13 Gemini is wide of Alex/Helena/Ixion, but also squares Neptune and forms yet another T-Square with asteroid Nemesis at 18 Sagittarius, representing a source of ruin or downfall.

The clues presented by Galina surrounded by Hanna and Reid, with Helena exactly conjunct Ixion and Gutierrez opposed Nemesis, suggest that the armorer is at the center of the incident, and at a minimum, manslaughter charges might be filed against her, who was most directly responsible for assuring that the revolver was in fact “cold” (i.e. empty or otherwise inoperable) when it was handed to Baldwin.

Alec Baldwin (born 3 April 1958, no time available) and Halyna Hutchins (born 10 April 1979, no time available) seem to have had a fated connection, based on their chart interactions.  Perhaps the most stand-out is Hutchins’ exact pairing of asteroids Anubis and Gunn at 13 Capricorn, suggesting a death from firearms, which is exactly squared by Baldwin’s Sun at 13 Aries, potentially identifying him as the trigger man.  Hutchins’ natal Ixion at 13 Scorpio is exactly sextile Anubis/Gunn, adding the element of homicide (as opposed to suicide or a hunting accident, for example), while Baldwin’s natal Alexander at 13 Leo (itself embedded at station) is exactly inconjunct, and his natal Rusty at 13 Pisces is exactly sextile, another personal tie to her natal predisposition to come to harm via firearms, as well as a connection to the venue for the shooting.  Further refining the details of the event is natal asteroid Hutchings at 10 Pisces, linking Hutchins and the “Rust” set directly.

That natal Alexander for Baldwin is exactly trine his Sun, a common connection for one’s own PNA (Personal-Named Asteroid), and its stationary status, turning direct two days after his birth, means it was embedded in the general psyche for the time, perhaps prompting the name choice for him by his parents.  As to why Baldwin chose the less common nickname Alec over the standard Alex, that can be explained by the placement of asteroid Alecsun, the only CNA (Compound-Name Asteroid, with the first and last names strung together as one word) beginning with that name, which at 25 Gemini is just one degree past asteroid Baldwin at 24 Gemini, making for a logical name choice.  Baldwin/Alecsun opposes Saturn, ancient lord of death, at 25 Sagittarius, in a T-Square with Helena at 24 Virgo, again uniting Hutchins (Helena) with Baldwin (Baldwin/Alecsun) and the theme of mortality (Saturn).

Alexander also exactly squares asteroid Lachesis at 13 Taurus, named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life, a role Baldwin embodied for Hutchins.  Note also that transit Uranus, ruling accidents and shootings, was exactly conjoined natal Lachesis for the incident.  As well, Baldwin and Lachesis form a T-Square with a cluster of points in mid-Aquarius – Mars exact with Damocles at 12 Aquarius, and Nemesis at 16 Aquarius.  This links the concept of some approaching doom (Damocles) involving weaponry (Mars), resulting in the ruin or downfall (Nemesis) of oneself or another.

Baldwin has one other point at station:  asteroid Rip, at 27 Leo, sesquiquadrate to the Sun and exactly opposed Venus at 27 Aquarius, which could indicate the death (Rip) of a female (Venus).  Regardless, Rip’s stationary status gives Baldwin a strong connection to the theme of death; transit Gunn and Requiem at 23 and 24 Leo were transiting this point at the shooting, with transit Damocles opposed, and conjoined natal Venus.  The Rip/Venus polarity also forms the string of a Grand Trine Kite pattern, the other points being Saturn at 25 Sagittarius and asteroid Alex at 23 Aries, further reinforcing Baldwin’s personal (Alex) involvement in the death (Rip, Saturn) of a female friend (both Venus).

Let’s move now to Halyna Hutchins, whose 20 Aries Sun conjunct Galina at 26 Aries and opposed Helena at 18 Libra conforms to typical PNA placements. 

We’ve already noted the remarkable exact conjunction of Gunn and Anubis in her chart.  Another eye-opener is an exact triple conjunction of asteroids Alexander, Baldwin and Hutchison, all at 22 Taurus, bringing together the full legal name of the man who killed her, with a PNA representing her surname.  This stunning combination doesn’t exist in isolation; rather, it is part of a Grand Cross, opposing Uranus, ruling accidents and shootings, at 20 Scorpio; Damocles, the doom hanging unseen overhead, at 27 Aquarius; and Requiem, the funeral mass for the dead, at 25 Leo.  Requiem is itself at station, granting it hugely augmented influence in her life, and recall that with transit Requiem at 24 Leo for her death, Hutchins was experiencing a “Requiem Return”, essentially reenergizing this natal potential, with transit Gunn, the means to that end, conjoined both transit and natal Requiem.

Hutchins has one other point at station – and you might not be surprised to find that this is asteroid Alex at 4 Sagittarius, suggesting a heightened importance for persons of that name in Hutchins’ biography.  Moreover, Alex appears at the Apex of a Yod, that Finger of Destiny, with inconjunct aspects to death indicators Rip at 1 Cancer and Atropos (named for Lachesis’ sister, who severs the thread of life at death) at 4 Taurus.

A nod to the venue for her death can be seen in the conjunction of asteroid Rusty (for the set of “Rust”) at 1 Pisces and asteroid Osiris at 10 Pisces, named for the ancient Egyptian god of the dead.  This broadly overlays Baldwin’s natal Hutchings/Rusty conjunction, and forms a T-Square with natal Alex at 4 Sagittarius, opposed Saturn, ancient lord of death, at 7 Virgo.  Transit Anubis at 4 Virgo conjoined Saturn and set off the T-Square at her death.

More than a month after the incident, Alec Baldwin appeared in a primetime interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, attempting to exonerate himself of any blame in Hutchins’ death.  Certainly he bears some responsibility, since the gun was in his possession when it discharged, but so do other crew members, as well as Hutchins herself, who broke safety protocols by instructing Baldwin to aim a loaded weapon directly at her, and was not wearing protective gear.  It will be interesting to see what the investigation reveals.
