On December 14, 2025, the world was shocked by the news of the brutal stabbing deaths of famed actor/director Robert Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner.  Within hours, authorities had arrested the Reiners’ second son, Nick, for the crime.  Two days later, he was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple homicides; if found guilty, Nick Reiner could receive the death penalty.

Nick had a troubled history with drug abuse from the age of 14, and had been living with his parents in the guesthouse on the property at the time of their deaths.  The family attended a holiday party at Conan O’Brien’s on the eve before the murder, where Nick’s unsettling behavior caused discomfort to other guests.  When rebuked by his father, a heated verbal altercation broke out. 

Rob Reiner came from a storied showbiz family; his father Carl was a comedy writer, the creative genius behind “The Dick Van Syke Show” in the 1960s.  Rob made his mark as an American entertainment icon early on, as Mike Stivic, AKA “Meathead,” Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on the groundbreaking ‘70s sitcom “All in the Family,” for which he won two Emmys.  After the series ended in 1979, Reiner quickly moved behind the camera, making his directorial premiere in 1984 with “This is Spinal Tap,” a continued cult favorite which pioneered the mockumentary format.

Reiner followed this with iconic films such as the coming-of-age drama “Stand by Me” (1986), the comedic fantasy “The Princess Bride” (1987) and rom-com “When Harry Met Sally” (1989).  Reiner confirmed his adaptability with the horror/suspense drama “Misery” in 1990, the military courtroom drama “A Few Good Men” in 1992 (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), and the political romantic drama “The American President” in 1995.

No time for the murders has been publicly released, but the Reiners were discovered by their daughter Romy on the afternoon of December 14^th at their Brentwood, California home.  The chart for their deaths is set for that location at 3:38 PM PST, the time police responded to her call.

The chart loudly proclaims Nick Reiner’s involvement, with several PNA (Personal-Named Asteroid) referents in damning placement.  A square from asteroid Nicky 4755 at 16 Virgo to the 22 Sagittarius Sun focuses suspicion on Nick and loosely ties him to a Grand Cross which images the murder itself.  Nick broadly conjoins asteroid Lachesis 120 at 26 Virgo (named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life, a role Nick played for his father), also squaring the Sun, which opposes asteroid Roberta 335 at 20 Gemini, one of several cosmic referents for Rob Reiner.  The tighter square between asteroids Roberta and Nicky portrays the tension of the verbal confrontation from the prior evening, as well as the ongoing stress of the situation.   With Lachesis and Nicky is asteroid House 4950 at 24 Virgo, alluding to the domestic scene for the murder, and Nick’s status as a houseguest.

The last leg of a Grand Cross is occupied by Saturn at 25 Pisces, the ancient ruler of death, also representing the father; and Neptune at 29 Pisces, which rules drugs, addiction and mental health issues.  Reportedly Michele Reiner had been concerned over what she considered her son’s deteriorating mental state in recent weeks.

Further evidence of Nick’s culpability can be seen in the conjunction of asteroid Nicole 1342 (feminine version of Nicholas) at 1 Scorpio with the Moon at 27 Libra, ruling family members, emotional states and the domestic environment.  This pairing squares a combination of asteroid Rip 7711 at 29 Capricorn (which functions as a death indicator in the form of the acronym “RIP,” “Rest In Peace,” a common tombstone inscription) and Pluto at 2 Aquarius, the modern lord of death and planetary ruler of homicide.  A T-Square is formed with asteroid Singer 10698 at 4 Taurus, designating his mother, Michele Singer Reiner, as another victim.

Although I just linguistically relegated Michele to second-rate status, as “another” victim, in fact, it appears to me that she may have been the initial target, or first attacked, for whatever reason, motivation or mere propinquity.  This stems from having asteroids Singer and Michel 1348 (a French masculine variation) at station, indicating enhanced importance and impact, and a major turning point in her biography.  The 4 Taurus Singer turns direct on December 21^st, a week after her murder, while Michel turned direct on the 17^th, just three days later.  It may be days or weeks, if ever, until we have a confirmed timeline of the act, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Nick killed his mother first.

Symbols of Nick’s involvement continue to a celestial crescendo of a second T-Square, anchored in a conglomeration of asteroids Reinerstoss 7689 (closest to Reiner), Niccolo 6952, Atropos 273, and Nicolaia 843, at 17, 25 and 29 Scorpio respectively (both Niccolo and Atropos appear at 25).  This combines three of Nick Reiner’s PNAs with Atropos, a point named for the Fate who severs the thread of life at death.  Opposing this cluster is a pairing of Uranus, ruling outrageous, shocking acts and volatile responses, and asteroid Osiris 1923, named for the Egyptian god of the dead, at 28 and 29 Taurus.  On the fulcrum of the T-Square is Damocles 5335 at 29 Aquarius, symbolizing the looming threat, peril or doom hanging unseen overhead, about to descend at any moment.

Stabbing is a particularly brutal, very personal, method of murder, with the perpetrator making direct contact with the victim.  In prior instances of this, I have found asteroid Stabia 152481 to be useful as a synonym of the act.  Here it appears at 9 Capricorn, conjoined TNO Ixion 28978 at 6 Capricorn, named for the first murderer in Greek myth, and Mars at 29 Sagittarius, ruling arguments, attacks, knives and violent death.  Asteroid Roberto 96257 at 20 Capricorn is just wide of Stabia, a further allusion to one victim’s identity.  Stabia also squares a conjunction of asteroids Requiem 2254 and Actor 12238 at 9 and 10 Libra, signaling the stabbing (Stabia) death (Requiem, named for the funeral mass for the dead) of a performer (Actor), further identifying Rob Reiner, whose career started as an actor, and who continued to appear in small parts on television and cinema up to his demise.  An opposition to asteroid Child 4580 at 13 Aries establishes an offspring as pivotally involved, creating a third T-Square.

Intimations of this tragic outcome present themselves in Rob Reiner’s nativity as well.  Born 6 March 1947 (no time available), the chart contains a conjunction of asteroids Roberts 3428 (our final “Robert” variant) and Nicole, at 20 and 21 Leo.  This type of celestial proximity can indicate closeness, a shared purpose or vision; or friction, with both parties chafing and bound in a union neither can avoid.  This duo rests on the fulcrum of a T-Square with asteroid Reinerstoss at 21 Taurus, again uniting them in shared surname; and Jupiter at 27 Scorpio, with asteroid Stabia at 26 Scorpio.  This reflects the celebrity (Jupiter) of the family generally, as well as the notoriety (also Jupiter) of the Triner (Roberts, Nicole, Reinerstoss) murder, which will doubtless become one of the more famous celebrity stabbings (Stabia).  This pattern was strongly activated by the transit grouping of Reinerstoss/Niccolo/Atropos/Nicolaia in late Scorpio. 

As well, a triple natal conjunction of Neptune at 10 Libra with Ixion and asteroid Nicky at 11 and 17 Libra suggests drug use or mental issues (Neptune) as pivotal in his murder (Ixion) at the hands of someone named Nick (Nicky).  A square to asteroid Child at 19 Capricorn establishes the Nick in question as his own son.  This pattern was activated by transit Requiem/Actor in Libra and transit Roberto in Capricorn. 

Finally, a natal grouping of Venus at 1 Aquarius with asteroids Niccolo and Nicolaia, at 27 and 29 Capricorn, would seem to display a great deal of love and affection for Nick (though it says nothing about whether that emotion was returned).  But add in transit Rip at 29 Cap and transit Pluto at 2 Aquarius and it becomes a toxic mix of death (Rip) and homicide (Pluto) perpetrated by a loved one (Venus) named Nick (Niccola, Nicolaia).   A natal T-Square with asteroid Lachesis (5 Taurus), asteroids Atropos & Rip (both 1 Leo) and Saturn (2 Leo), confirms the potential lethality of this connection.

Rob Reiner had experienced a Lunar Eclipse at 23 Virgo in March 2025, exactly opposed natal Riberto at 23 Pisces, which also touched off natal asteroid Anubis 1912 at 28 Gemini, named for the ancient Egyptian deity ruling funerary rites.  The subsequent Solar Eclipse at 9 Aries opposed natal Neptune/Ixion and also activated natal Osiris at 5 Libra, setting the stage for a deranged (Neptune) murder (Ixion).  The Lunar Eclipse of 7 September at 15 Pisces exactly opposed Rob Reiner’s Sun, while the Solar Eclipse of the 21^st at 29 Virgo again activated Anubis, and also ignited natal asteroid House at 29 Pisces, specifying a death at home.

For his part, Nick Reiner seems tailor-made as the villain of the piece.  Born 14 September 1993 (no time available), his birth chart repeats the fateful PNA conjunction of his father’s nativity, here expressed as an exact union of asteroids Niccolo and Roberto at 28 Gemini, the precise degree of Rob’s natal Anubis, suggesting that the enmeshment (conjunction of PNAs) between them could one day result in death (Anubis).  Squared his 21 Virgo Sun, this paternal tension becomes intrinsic to who he is.  Another indicator of the overarching, perhaps stultifying, influence of his father on Nick can be seen in the stationary status of asteroids Roberts at 21 Taurus and Reinerstoss at 29 Capricorn (with Roberts turning retrograde and Reinerstoss turning direct, both on the very day of this birth).  Recall that 29 Capricorn is the precise degree of transit Rip for the murder, while 21 Taurus connects to Rob’s natal Reinerstoss/Roberts/Nicole/Jupiter/Stabia T-Square, and the Scorpio stellium for the murder.

Further, natal Roberts participates in a stunning natal Grand Cross reflective of the incident, squared a pairing of Nicky with Saturn (Nick as an agent of death) at 20 and 25 Aquarius; Nicolaia conjoined Venus at 18 and 21 Leo; and a remarkable grouping of Pluto, Ixion and Osiris at 23, 25 and 29 Scorpio, conjoined asteroid Nicole at 1 Sagittarius, establishing Nick (Nicole) as instrumental in the crime (Pluto) of murder (Ixion).  Note how the transit Niccolo/Atropos/Niccolaia stellium perfectly overlays the natal Scorpio stellium at the murder.

Nick’s responsibility in his mother’s death is portrayed both by a conjunction of asteroids Singer and Atropos at 11 and 12 Aries (conjoined by transit asteroid Child at her murder); and also by an opposition from asteroids Roberta and Stabia at 6 and 9 Pisces to asteroids Michelle and Michel, conjoined at 8 and 11 Virgo, specifying stabbing (Stabia) as the means of death for both parents (Roberta, Michel, Michelle).  Asteroid Nicloe at 1 Sagittarius forms a T-Square, once again directly tying Nick to the crime.

Born with an exact Neptune/Uranus pairing at 18 Capricorn, trine the Sun, Nick Reiner was perhaps unable to disassociate from the insanity, substance abuse (both Neptune) and volatility (Uranus) which their conjunction can evoke.  A conjunction of an exact union of asteroid Rip and Damocles at 22 Capricorn suggests a looming threat (Damocles) of death (Rip) tied to the workings of the Uranus/Neptune combination.  A square from this Capricorn grouping to a Jupiter (17 Libra), Mars (21 Libra), asteroid Child (21Libra) and asteroid Lachesis (22 Libra) blending suggests going to excess (Jupiter) in a knife attack (Mars) which shortens the lives (Lachesis) of persons to whom he stood in the status of offspring (Child).

We may never understand the motivation or provocation for such a horrific act, but with astrology, we can see the potential for its inception, and the tragic manner in which that played out.
