Atlantic storms with PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) equating to their designated names, which find these connected to the Sun when they make landfall, often prove to be among the worst, most powerful and destructive hurricanes on record, not to mention the most expensive.  Such was the case with Hurricane Irma, which made landfall in Florida on 10 September 2017, with the Sun conjunct asteroid Irma (estimated cost $65 billion); and Hurricane Maria, which made landfall in Puerto Rico ten days later, with asteroid Maria exactly squared the Sun (estimated cost $115 billion).  And such is the case now, with Hurricane Helene striking Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane, the largest ever to hit the region, on September 26^th, under a precise conjunction of the Sun with asteroid Helena (with an early estimate of the storm’s damage at $95-110 billion).

Helene roared ashore near Perry, Florida at 11:10 PM EDT, with the Sun and asteroid Helena 101 at 4 Libra also conjoined Mercury (with affinities for weather and newsworthy events) at 0 Libra, squared asteroid Raine 16802 at 0 Capricorn and widely trine asteroid Flood 4220 at 14 Gemini, also trine Pluto at 29 Capricorn, ruling destruction and devastation.  Not surprisingly, given those contacts, rain and flooding has been a major feature of this storm, with a 9.63-foot storm surge as it made landfall, sweeping away everything in its path; and rainfall totals of as much as 29.5 inches in western North Carolina, as Helene proceeded to wreak havoc across the US Southeast.  At least 60 have died, and 4 million people were left powerless in the storm’s wake.

Sun/Helena is also trine Uranus at 27 Taurus, ruling electricity (as well as the disruption of a power outage) and record-setting such as the hurricane has evoked.  An ongoing opposition from Uranus to TNO Typhon 42355 at 24 Scorpio, squared by Damocles 5335 at 29 Aquarius, signals the continued looming peril (Damocles) from powerful, intense (Uranus), massive storms (Typhon, named for mythic Greek Titan who spawned hurricanes and other sea storms), with this pattern stable for weeks to come.  Damocles is also conjunct the landfall’s 28 Aquarius MC, the focus of all eyes, with early advance warning of the storm’s power and anticipated devastation likely saving many lives.

As well, asteroid Flood joins Jupiter at 21 Gemini on the 15 Gemini Ascendant for landfall in Perry, Florida, with Jupiter encouraging increase, excess and going to extremes, and the Ascendant/Flood combination showing flooding as the most visible face (Ascendant) of the storm.  Speaking of storms, asteroid Storm 12182 at 22 Sagittarius closely opposes Jupiter, increasing the size and scope of Helene, one of the most massive hurricanes on record, some 350 miles across. 

Storm is conjoined by asteroid Aeolia 396 at 19 Sagittarius, named for the island home of the mythic Greek deity ruling the winds; together, this denotes a hurricane (Storm) remembered for winds (Aeolia), which packed a 140-mph punch when she slammed into Florida’s coast.  Aeolia conjoins the 15 Sagittarius Descendant, so we have images of wind (Aeolia) and flooding (Flood) angular on the Horizontal Axis, a truly remarkable celestial appraisal of the situation.  This opposition becomes a Grand Cross with the inclusion of Saturn at 14 Pisces, representing loss, deprivation and hardship; and asteroid Rainer 16802 at 16 Virgo, another nod to the record-setting deluge.

Sun/Helena also opposes Neptune at 28 Pisces, traditional ruler of the sea and flooding, which itself opposes asteroid Nemesis 128 at 25 Virgo (widely conjunct Sun/Helena), a point noted for ruin and destruction, and is exactly sesquiquadrate asteroid Sturm 31043 at 13 Leo (German for “storm,” widely semisquare Sun/Helena).

The lethality of storms in this overall timeframe can be seen in an extended conjunction of asteroid Sturm with asteroid Atropos 273 (named for the mythic Greek Fate who severs the thread of life at death), now precise at 13 Leo.  Asteroid Requiem 2254 at 23 Gemini (named for the funeral mass for the dead) conjunct Jupiter at 21 Gemini and opposed asteroid Storm at 22 Sagittarius, also suggests an increased (Jupiter) death toll (Requiem) from extreme weather events (Storm) at this time.  More specifically, Helene’s propensity to kill is seen as asteroid Lachesis 120 at 7 Cancer (named for the Fate who determines the span of life), squared Sun/Helena; and asteroid Anubis 1912 at 17 Aquarius (named for the ancient Egyptian deity governing funerary rites), in sesquiquadrate.

The death toll was highest in Georgia and South Carolina, where at least 40 people, two-thirds of the total, were taken by the storm.  Seventeen died in Georgia, which Helene hit as a Category 2 hurricane, unprecedented in the Peach State’s history.  Asteroid Georgia 359 at 3 Scorpio is semisextile Sun/Helena and trine Lachesis, also widely squared Atropos.  Twenty-three died in South Carolina, while the eye-popping rain totals came in North Carolina, both states represented by asteroid Carolina 235, which at 28 Aquarius conjoins Damocles and the MC, trine both Sun/Helena and excessive Jupiter, also sextile asteroid Raine, depicting the massive rainfall in North Carolina.  The high death toll in South Carolina is imaged by asteroid Carolina trine asteroid Requiem at 23 Gemini (also boosted by Jupiter at 21 Gemini) and squared asteroid Rip 7711 (“RIP”) at 29 Scorpio.  With both Jupiter (ruling the millions) and Pluto (ruling the billions) active in this chart, it’s likely that the total cost of Hurricane Helene will place the storm in the top five most expensive storms on record, possibly ranked as high as third when all is said and done.
