Send in the Marines!
On the last weekend of September 2025, two mass shootings unfolded, within 13 hours of each other, on the East Coast and in the Heartland, both allegedly perpetrated by 40-year-old former marines, and both employing unorthodox means to enact their crimes. On Saturday, 27 September, at about 9:30 PM EDT, Nigel Max Edge approached a popular waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina by boat, and fired indiscriminately into the business, killing 3 and wounding 5 more. The following morning at 10:25 AM EDT Thomas Jacob Sanford drove his truck, huge American flags waving, straight into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sanctuary in Grand Blanc, Michigan, leaping from the vehicle to spray the attendees with bullets, and tossing accelerant into the church, then lighting it, causing a massive fire. Four were killed, 10 injured.
The tie that binds these events is an ongoing T-Square from Damocles 5335 at 0 Pisces, conjoined asteroid Marina 1202 (closest to “marine”) at 2 Pisces, opposed asteroid Lachesis 120 at 3 Virgo, named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life, with Uranus, ruling shootings, conjoined asteroid Osiris 1923 (Egyptian god of the dead) at 1 and 9 Gemini, on the fulcrum. This shows an imminent, looming, but unsuspected (Damocles) fatal (Osiris) shooting (Uranus) by a marine (Marina) which shortened lives (Lachesis).
Both men also share some nomenclature issues. Born 25 October 1984 (no time available), Nigel Max Edge was born Sean DeBevoise, but changed his name in 2023. Typically, PNAs (Personal-Named Asteroids) for the native will connect with the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Mercury; without a time of birth, we can’t determine the Moon or Ascendant degree, but within the parameters of what we have, Edge doesn’t fit this pattern.
Asteroid Sean 7051 at 11 Libra, however, exactly conjoins asteroid Atropos 273, named for the mythic Greek Fate who severs the thread of life at death, perhaps making the theme of death somehow self-identifying for him. As well, Sean squares Jupiter, Mars and asteroid Anubis 1912 at 7, 14 and 16 Capricorn. Mars in square may incline him to violence, Anubis is named for the Egyptian deity governing funerary rites, and Jupiter brings a form of celebrity or notoriety, for good or ill. Its conjunction with Mars can act to exacerbate Martian issues with anger and aggression, and may have led Edge to pursue a career in the military, also Mars-ruled.
When it came to picking his new name, Edge chose Nigel, which does make an impressive showing. At 5 Cancer, Nigel is at station, an embedded element in his psyche, something which will prove influential in his biography. Nigel, which turned retrograde four days after his birth, is trine the 0 Scorpio Sun and squares Sean, making it a natural choice for a change of identity. Nigel also opposes the Jupiter/Mars conjunction, forming a T-Square.
Likewise, Thomas Jacob Sanford also rejected his birth name, albeit at a much younger age. Born 29 July 1985 (no time available), asteroid Thomas 2555 at 26 Pisces is at station, turning retrograde two days prior to birth. Thomas doesn’t connect with the 6 Leo Sun, but it is inconjunct Mercury at 25 Leo, forming the Apex of a Yod (AKA “Finger of Destiny,” a fated pattern) with asteroid Sanford 5736 at 26 Libra, linking both first and surnames with the planet ruling the naming function. Thomas conjoins asteroid Church 10343 at 25 Pisces, also at station, and is sextile a precise conjunction of asteroids Christian 192158 and Lachesis at 27 Taurus, opposing asteroid Rip 7711 at 22 Virgo, and trine Saturn, ancient lord of death, at 21 Scorpio. Together this signifies a house of worship (Church) as pivotal in his biography, related to the deaths (Lachesis, Saturn, Rip (as the acronym RIP)) of congregants (Christian), whose lives he shortened (Lachesis), as well as losing his own (Sanford was shot and killed by police responding to the scene).
Popularly known as Jake, a diminutive of his given middle name of Jacob, it’s possible he chose that moniker (or had it chosen for him, we’re not sure when he started using that identification) due to asteroid Jacobi 12040 at 11 Leo, conjoined his Sun, which may have felt like a better “fit” for him. Asteroid Jacoby at 18 Leo squares Mercury, another nudge in that direction.
Enough of the similarities; now for the differences. When Sean “Nigel Max Edge” DeBevoise shot up that waterfront bar on September 27th, asteroid Sean at 26 Virgo conjoined the Sun at 4 Libra, which was also conjunct asteroid Gunn 18243 at 9 Libra. This places a focus on Edge (Sean) and firearms (Gunn). Gunn in turn conjoins asteroid Atropos 273 (death) at 14 Libra and Mercury (news) at 16 Libra.
The Sun/Gunn pairing squares TNO Ixion 28978 (named for the first murderer in Greek myth), asteroid Rip 7711 (“RIP”) and asteroid Shipka 2530 (for “ship”), at 5, 9 and 10 Capricorn, in a T-Square with Neptune (water, seaside, mental health issues) at 0 Aries and asteroid Schiff 61401 (German for “ship”) at 8 Aries. A Grand Cross is completed with natal asteroid Nigel at 5 Cancer, while the natal Jupiter/Mars/Anubis trip conjoins the Capricorn arm of the Cross, and the natal Sean/Atropos conjoins the Libran Sun/Gunn pairing. Transit Sean itself also opposes transit Saturn, ancient lord of death, at 28 Pisces.
The transit T-Square of Lachesis opposed Damocles/Marina, squared Uranus/Osiris, becomes a full-fledged Grand Cross with transit asteroid Boattini 8925 at 7 Sagittarius, linking the “boat” element of the crime. Boattini also conjoins the transit Moon at 13 Sagittarius (too wide for the Grand Cross), perhaps a triggering factor in the timing of the attack. Osiris at 9 Gemini is further conjoined by asteroids Carolina 235 and Skiff 2554, at 10 and 15 Gemini, specifying the general location (Carolina, for North Carolina) and the conveyance employed (a “skiff” is a small boat).
Transit asteroid Nigel at 25 Cancer conjoins Jupiter at 22 Cancer, bringing fame or notoriety, and widely opposes Pluto at 1 Aquarius, modern modern lord of death, indicating the source of that celebrity.
Cast for 9:30 PM EDT, the Ascendant of 27 Taurus conjoins transit Uranus (shootings) at 1 Gemini and natal Skiff at 28 Taurus, in a T-Square with natal asteroid Nemesis 128 (known as the bringer of destruction) at 22 Scorpio and natal asteroid Requiem 2254 (named for the funeral mass of the dead) at 22 Aquarius with natal Damocles (impending doom) at 28 Aquarius.
The Midheaven at 9 Aquarius conjoins transit Pluto at 1 Aquarius, planetary ruler of homicide and criminal acts, and squares the natal cluster of Mercury, the Sun, Pluto and asteroid Boattini, at 0, 2, and 5 Scorpio (Sun/Pluto is exact at 2 Scorpio). Edge was attempting to develop a chartered boat business, and used his own boat, the Triumph, for his attack on the American Fish Company. Natal asteroid TRIUMF 14959 (phonetic match for Triumph) at 8 Scorpio conjoins Boattini and the solar stellium, making it a logical choice when naming his boat; transit TRIUMF at 27 Leo is exactly squared the MC/IC axis for the attack. Natal asteroid America 916 (for American Fish Company) at 9 Aquarius is an exact match for the MC of the attack, opposing transit asteroid America at 12 Leo.
As with Edge, Jake Sanford’s unconventional conveyance to commit his crime (using his truck to ram the church) appears in that underlining T-Square of Damocles/Marine opposed Lachesis, squared Uranus/Osiris, which defines these attacks. There is no asteroid “Truck,” but we have Carr 3837, alternate spelling and phonetic match for “car,” a celestial placeholder for any type of personal motorized vehicle. Asteroid Carr at 1 Virgo conjoins Lachesis at 3 Virgo, linking the shortening of lifespans with his Chevy Silverado. Oddly, Sanford was experiencing a “Silver Return,” with transit asteroid Silver 525 – for the Silverado – at 18 Aries, about to return to its natal degree of 20 Aries; from there it conjoins natal asteroid Flammeus 8752 at 23 Aries (for “flames”) and forms a natal T-Square, opposing asteroid Sanford at 26 Libra, squared asteroids Nemesis and Burns 2708 (also for the fire he started) at 17 & 18 Capricorn.
There is a repetition of the vehicle/arson theme in the transit sky, with asteroids Flammario 1021, Flamini 18099 (both for “flames”) and Jacoby at 9, 10 and 15 Sagittarius, conjoined natal Carr at 15 Sagittarius, with natal Uranus (shootings) at 14 Sag and asteroid Atropos (death) at 12 Sag. The Moon at 20 Sag for the attack had crossed over and energized these points within the day or so prior to the incident.
Sanford had also undergone a Sanford Return recently, with transit Sanford at 1 Scorpio, still within orb of the natal placement of 26 Libra. Transit Sanford was also aligned with Mars (anger, violence, firearms, attacks, violent death) at 4 Scorpio, the attack’s Ascendant at 8 Scorpio, and asteroid Nemesis at 10 Scorpio; also exactly squared by transit Pluto (criminality, death) at 1 Aquarius. Sanford further squares transit Burns at 27 Cancer, forging another link to Sanford and fires.
Flames and death are also linked natally, with natal Flamini at 1 Taurus conjoined asteroids Anubis and Blanco, at 0 and 5 Taurus. Blanco is closest to Grand Blanc, the town where the attack occurred. Additionally, natal Flammario at 6 Aquarius squares Pluto at 2 Scorpio, and natal asteroids Burns and Burney 6235 connect to Damocles at 6 Pisces, the looming threat, Burns in semisquare from 18 Capricorn and Burney exactly opposed from 6 Virgo.
Blanco is also prominent on the day of the attack; at 12 Aquarius, it is embedded at station (turning direct a week prior) and conjoins both the IC at 18 Aquarius and asteroid Jacobi at 19 Aquarius.
As with Edge, the Sun, now at 5 Libra, conjoins asteroids Gunn and Atropos, now at 10 and 14 Libra, and squares TNO Ixion with asteroid Rip at 5 and 10 Capricorn, placing a focus (Sun) on issues of weaponry (Gunn), murder (Ixion) and death (Atropos, Rip). Where this differs is in the creation of a T-Square with asteroid Flammeus at 4 Cancer, adding the element of fire to the equation. Sanford’s natal Gunn at 4 Libra connects with the solar stellium, which also activates a natal T-Square with asteroid Requiem (funeral mass) at 8 Cancer and Neptune (mental health issues, spiritual space of the church) at 1 Capricorn.
Asteroids Thomas and Church are conjunct in the transit sky (17 and 14 Cancer respectively), as they were in Thomas Sanford’s birth chart (26 & 25 Pisces). The natal pairing was energized by a Solar Eclipse at 29 Virgo in opposition a week prior to the attacks, with the transit conjunction exactly squared by transit Mercury (ruling news and cars generally) at 17 Libra and transit Atropos at 14 Libra.
Two former Marines, both decorated for their service to their country, both forty years old, went on separate rampages, essentially half a day apart. What is happening to this country?
