Deadly Texas Flash Floods Kill Dozens

Rain-sodden remnants of Tropical Storm Barry dumped more than 6” of precipitation on Kerr County, Texas, USA in the early hours of 4 July 2025.  Rainfall rates of 2-3” per hour prompted the Guadalupe River to overflow its banks in a surge of more than 29 feet, causing devastating flash flooding across hundreds of acres of Texas hill country.  At least 84 were killed, including 21 children, with search and rescue efforts for more possible victims ongoing, including 10 girls missing from a summer camp in Hunt.

Mercury is the planet most often associated with weather; we find it here at 8 Leo opposed Pluto at 3 Aquarius, known as the modern lord of death, noted for destruction and devastating outcomes, depicting the loss of life (Pluto) from weather-related (Mercury) causes.  Mercury is accompanied by asteroids Lachesis 120 at 1 Leo, named for the mythic Greek Fate who determines the span of life; Requiem 2254, named for the funeral mass for the dead, at 5 Leo; and Flood 4220 at 7 Leo, whose application to the story is obvious.  This basic Mercury/Pluto polarity forms a T-Square with asteroid Barry 1703 at 0 Scorpio, the name of the Tropical Storm whose remnants created the catastrophe.

As well, the world is still in the grips of the annual conjunction of the Sun with Jupiter, a planet with a generally good reputation, but which magnifies and inflates whatever it touches, often encouraging excess.  Here we see the Sun at 12 degrees and Jupiter at 5 degrees combined in Cancer, a Water Sign, perhaps facilitating the deluge.  In addition, a second T-Square is formed, with an opposition to centaur Pholus 5145 at 10 Capricorn conjoined asteroid Rip 7711 at 16 Capricorn, and squares to asteroids Nemesis 128 at 17 Libra and Rainer 16802 at 16 Libra.  Pholus is noted for mass casualties, from whatever cause (often found active in mass shootings and natural disasters); Rip functions as the acronym “RIP,” another death indicator; Nemesis represents ruin and destruction; and Rainer is a suitable celestial stand-in for “rain.”  Together they spell increased (Jupiter) loss of life (Pholus, Rip) and destruction (Nemesis) via flooding (Jupiter + Rainer).

The beauty of the Texas hill country was renowned, but the flooding has wreaked havoc on the natural world as well; asteroid Texas is semisquare asteroid Flood and Barry, sesquiquadrate Pluto

There are several additional factors that reiterate these themes.  Mercury/Flood also squares a pairing of asteroids Osiris 1923 (named for the ancient Egyptian god of the dead) and Storm 12182 at 14 and 16 Taurus, underscoring the potential for deadly consequences (Osiris) from the storm (Storm).  Local residents have been quick to criticize the emergency response system, hampered by Trump budgetary cuts, which was slow to respond to the crisis.  One of the communities that did receive advance warning was Mason, Texas, as reflected here by asteroid Mason-Dixon 3131, which at 19 Taurus conjoins Osiris/Storm.

Another devastated community was Hunt, Texas, where ten girls and one counsellor died at Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls, when the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes.  Asteroid Hunt 23041 at 16 Gemini is exactly semisquare Lachesis at 1 Leo (lifespans), itself conjunct asteroid Christian 192158 at 3 Leo (for the religious summer camp), as well as semisquare Requiem.  Hunt is also exactly inconjunct asteroid Rip (RIP) at 16 Capricorn, and closely trine asteroid Nemesis (ruin, destruction) at 17 Libra, doubling down on the loss of life and devastation in that area.  Asteroid Texas 35352 at 20 Virgo is also semisquare Lachesis/Christian/Requiem; together these two asteroids supply both the name of the community and the state where the worst tragedies occurred.  The Nemesis/Rainer conjunction, in turn, opposes asteroid Child 4580 at 21 Aries, creating a Grand Cross with the Sun at 12 Cancer and asteroid Rip.

Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls in Hunt, Texas, was the scene of mass loss of life, with 10 children and a counsellor killed; asteroid Hunt is semisquare asteroids Lachesis (lifespans), Christian, Requiem (funeral mass) and Flood

Chloe Childress was the counsellor who died at Camp Mystic.  Aged 18, she had graduated from High School a month prior, and was preparing for college in the fall.  Chloe is represented by asteroid Chloe 402, which at 16 Cancer conjoins the spotlighting Sun and joins the Grand Cross.  Asteroid Childress 30117 at 0 Taurus squares Lachesis, in a second Grand Cross with Pluto (death) at 3 Aquarius, exactly opposing asteroid Barry at 0 Scorpio, the storm that caused her demise.

A high percentage of females died in the sudden deluge, as depicted by asteroid Anubis 1912 at 25 Taurus (named for the Egyptian deity governing funerary rites) conjoined an exact Uranus/Venus paring at 29 Taurus and asteroid Raine 221019 at 3 Gemini.  This translates as the sudden, unexpected (Uranus) deaths (Anubis) of females (Venus) due to precipitation (Raine, alternate spelling of “rain”).

Survivors begin the backbreaking work of cleanup; a combination of Mars with asteroids Atropos and Sturm (German for “storm”) opposed Damocles portrays the violence (Mars) of the deadly (Atropos, named for the Fate who severs the thread of life at death) storm (Sturm), a doom that seemingly came out of nowhere (Damocles)

Mars has a role to play as well.  At 9 Virgo, this indicator of violent death is exactly conjunct asteroid Sturm 31043 (German for “storm”), as well as asteroid Atropos 273 at 5 Virgo, named for the Fate who severs the thread of life at death, again harking to a deadly weather system.  This grouping opposes Damocles 5335 at 6 Pisces, noted as the peril or doom hanging unseen overhead, about to descend at any moment.  A third T-Square is formed with asteroid Raine at 3 Gemini.

Map of the affected areas; a pairing of asteroids Osiris and Storm signaled the potential for a deadly (Osiris, Egyptian god of the dead) weather system (Storm), while a combination of Uranus with asteroids Anubis and Raine suggests unexpected, shocking (Uranus) deaths (Anubis, funerary rites) from precipitation (Raine)

Ironically, Tropical Storm Barry was a minor storm, as these things go, with 45 mph winds barely registering on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, taking only five lives in its short duration as a cohesive system, and causing a mere $3.22 million in damage.  But in its aftermath, Barry contributed to the deaths of at least 84 others, with that tally likely to grow as rescue efforts become recovery operations, and a hefty price tag estimated at $10 billion.

In these days of climate change events, even a small storm can wreak major havoc.
